Byrnes is now a 25-25 man. It's not the sexiest of clubs, but it's a very solid year and he leads the club in both categories.
It's too bad management didn't recognize his versatility earlier in the season.
Moving him from leadoff to the heart of the batting order, and keeping him there, would have taken advantage of his combined power threat and base stealing skills.
A guy with those stats is ideal for the 6th spot (where you don't mind the next hitter getting an intentional walk after a stolen base).
But with the D'backs weak in middle-of-the-order candidates, it would have been ideal for him to hit fifth, with Estrada batting cleanup. (They were our two most dependable hitters.)
It also would have avoided ruining Tracy's year by batting him cleanup . . . or the rookie Conor Jackson.
Oh if we only had a Manager with a plan.
