Edgar Gonzalez turns in another great start tonight, and the Dbacks bats finally solved Schmidt. Homers by Byrnes and Jackson lead the way for the Dbacks as they win 7-1. Brandon Webb gets the start tomorrow in one of his last chances to impress the Cy Young voters against Matt Morris.

I could see giving Luis Gonzalez home starts but why does he have to play on the road? It's the end of the season and the young players should be getting all of the starts.

1 CF Chris Young
2 2B Alberto Callaspo
3 SS Stephen Drew
4 RF Carlos Quentin
5 1B Conor Jackson
6 3B Chad Tracy
7 LF Scott Hairston
8 C Miguel Montero

An emotionally disturbed, eight year old Martian would know better than to bring in Brandon Lyon to pitch the 9th inning of a tie game.

It seems like Bob Melvin wants to get fired.

Way to go, Butthead!

Byrnes is now a 25-25 man. It's not the sexiest of clubs, but it's a very solid year and he leads the club in both categories.

It's too bad management didn't recognize his versatility earlier in the season.

Moving him from leadoff to the heart of the batting order, and keeping him there, would have taken advantage of his combined power threat and base stealing skills.

A guy with those stats is ideal for the 6th spot (where you don't mind the next hitter getting an intentional walk after a stolen base).

But with the D'backs weak in middle-of-the-order candidates, it would have been ideal for him to hit fifth, with Estrada batting cleanup. (They were our two most dependable hitters.)

It also would have avoided ruining Tracy's year by batting him cleanup . . . or the rookie Conor Jackson.

Oh if we only had a Manager with a plan.
