Well.. the Dbacks had a very crucial homestand, however, their woes continued at what has become the unfriendly confines of the BOB this past week yielding a 2-4 record.... They should have obviously swept the lowly Rockies, but let's hope that today's victory and Gonzo's reaction toward what seemed like an intentional attempt to hit Tracy could be both major turning-points and become what is hoped to be the start of something big....

The Dbacks have faired well on the road and have been respectable versus the Marlins in Florida over the past few seasons....

Here's the scores and series thread of the Dbacks only clash with the Marlins thus far in '05:

@the BOB
07/18: Dbacks: 8 - Marlins: 7
07/19: Dbacks: 3 - Marlins: 6
07/20: Dbacks: 2 - Marlins: 9

The Marlins are very potent with some lethal power hitters, players who know how to execute small-ball to perfection, a deep bullpen, and of course some front-line starters.... Will be an extremely interesting and challenging series....

Marlins lose 4-3 in 11. They used 5 pitchers. Let's hope game 2 is a shootout and the Marlins get in real late.

Marlins lost game two 5-3. It will be a long flight home for them.

If we had a left fielder with a decent arm, that runner is out at home. 5-0.

It would be nice if the offense could score a few runs to shut up that Marlin fan.

They played a double-header with extra innings yesterday, landed in Miami at 4AM this morning, and they played with a LOT more energy than we did. That's really damning. This team has basically faxed in the whole freakin' season so far!

The Diamondbacks are now carrying three catchers. I would think Stinnett will get some starts on this road trip. I will not be sad if they send Snyder down to Tucson. Does he know where he is trying to hit the ball?

Was that OUR Diamondbacks making that big league play?

Awesome throw and BIG LEAGUE block of the plate by Stennet.

Great throw by Terrero and great block of the plate by Stinnett to nail the runner at home. Team down 1-0. The bats need to come alive.

And for those who were clamoring to get Jackson in the lineup, his bat may be MLB ready, but his defense needs work...and these mistakes don't help.

Hey AZZenny

I don't remember you mentioning in any of your scouting reports that Conner has absolutely no clue how to field a major league position.

He's had 8 Errors in Triple-A, which isn't too bad for his very first season ever playing 1st base - mostly throwing errors, like Tracy's were last year up here.

I believe if you read my comments for the past month, I have said all along he and Carlos needed to finish the year in Tucson - Conor to work on defense, and Carlos on base-running and a few batting details.

Conor looks totally rattled today - his plate discipline has lapsed the past couple games, he's frustrated, and he's getting down on himself.

Defensively, Conor obviously needs more learning of the position and more experience. I think he would of been better suited to have stayed in Tucson until the September callups. Just my opinion.

Fifth inning. Ah, the familiar smell of overheated axle grease as the wheels fly off in all directions!

Ugly all around. Nice of Stinnett to try to make Conor feel better and less responsible.

You know, it just occurred to me - If we were in any other division, our W-L record might not be hugely different than last year.

Would another month really make much of a difference?

I went back and looked and didnt see you or anybody else for that matter saying that Jackson should still be in Tucson. You seemed pretty excited that he was coming up (as well you should have been, he is a top prospect after all). I really dont think another month in the minors before September call-ups would help Jackson that much. I'd rather see him up here now even though he's taking his lumps, I would rather him do it now and sort of get it out of the way this year so he can come back next year stronger than ever. I dont know if that is going to make sense to everybody, I'm really not sure how to put it.

I see it kind of like the same situation as Chad Tracy was in last year. Sure, his play showed last year that he could have used a bit more time in the minors refining certain aspects of his game, but he was able to stay focused in the majors last year even though there were several bumps along the way and he came back strong this year. I see something similar happening to Jackson, get acclimated and take some bumps here in the majors, but learning from them and coming back next year (when we might actually have a chance) much improved. I certainly am not a fan of rushing prospects, but I think that having Jackson up here now is the best course of action. This will be a great learning experience for him.

Wow...that was a lot of rambling. :thud:

Dbacks suddenly get back in the ballgame after a 3 run double by Glaus and then a sac fly by Green.

Marlins up 6-5 in the 7th

Maybe Grace can work with Conor as long as Mark doesn't start throwing f-bombs at him. :biglaugh:

Actually, I would be pretty pissed if they bring these guys up now just to serve the short term fantasy needs of this very mediocre team - they both really need to polish their defense and baserunning. September is soon enough. Besides, it'll screw their chances at ROY!

Not that it mattered, actually - a shutout is a shutout no matter how they scored their runs. (btw - do we still think Conor shouldn't be in Tucson polishing his defense? I have said all along this is a premature call-up.)

It was awhile ago - once he was up here, not much point in saying he shouldn't be, although as I look around, I was more inclined to say that recently on some other baseball boards than here.

Phew! No sweep! Good game pitched by Webb - thank god for the AL-way-to-play. Tracy and Glaus saved our bacon. :p

On to Atlanta.
