Pujols?? Damn.. That's one name I'd have NEVER suspected.

I really hope this is one of those fluff stories that proves to be wrong.

I hope it isnt true either. Wil at Deadspin is a huuuge Cardinals fan, so he wouldnt report it if it didnt have some legs. The rationale is interesting; If Pujols had been using HGH since before he made the majors, there is no major transformation a la Sosa or Bonds.

Lets see how long it takes for the media to start talking about this. If this is true (Pujols trainer being involved), whether Pujols took illegal drugs or not, it will be very bad for baseball in the short term. Obviously it will be good in the long haul but for the 3 premier sluggers (Bonds, Pujols, Giambi), to be all but guilty for performance enhancers is a brutal blow. How can anyone cheer for each homerun they hit, whether it's MLB's fault for letting this problem get this far or not.

Yeah, Pujols may not have taken any steroids, amphetamines, or HGH but if his trainer is involved, it's just as bad. It's no different than Bonds situation right now......

Why is taking HGH wrong?

It's illegal without a prescription.

And it is illegal to prescribe unless used for the FDA-approved uses.

It looks like ingestable HGH is leagal without a prescription. Only th einjectable is ileagal. It least that is what I have been told without a lot of research.

See this link where you can buy it without any prescription

It would be pretty stunning if Pujols were guilty. Here's an excerpt from a Sporting News article on him.

Pujols would know. Though steroids suspicions and controversies have embroiled some of the game's biggest stars -- including McGwire -- Pujols spends time each offseason teaching hitting clinics at Mihlfeld's facility north of Kansas City in Pleasant Valley, Mo., and preaching the value of nutrition over chemicals. He is cautious with his body's intake.

Rather than hire a personal chef, Pujols asks Deidre to cook his meals. She researches on the Internet the best ways to feed her husband. "That's big with Albert," Mihlfeld says. "He wants to make kids understand there is a right way. There is a lot of temptation out there. He wants instruction based on nutrition and strength and conditioning."

I've always liked him ever since I read how active he is with downs syndrome kids, his wife has a daughter with DS(Pujols is not the father).

But obviously anything is possible, and it is quite easy to find reference to that guy in KC being Pujols' trainer in the offseason. No idea if he really was in HS or not, seems odd, Pujols was dirt poor growing up, his family moved to the US looking for the American dream, so it's not clear how he'd afford a personal trainer in HS who was giving him HGH.

The fact that Pujols is a nice guy does not mean he's not a cheater. Luis Gonzalez is a helluva guy but any rational person will admit he likely used some sort of steroid or HGH to hit 57 HRs.

Oh absolutely, I certainly think it's entirely possible Pujols is in fact on something.

I was trying to find a reference last night to how big he was when drafted but couldn't because when you're drafted in the 13th round, there's not a lot of info. Apparently he was much higher rated but there were 2 fears, one that he was lying about his age, two that he had no position in the majors.

That's the problem with what Canseco, McGwire and Bonds did, you can't be good today without suspicion that you're juiced.

FYI the trainer is denying the whole story in the KC papers.

According to the Tribune, there are six names - four current players and two former players. None of these six that Grimsley named were Diamondbacks. Thats good news, I suppose.

Thats what it said. It said six players, so I guess its possible the other blacked out spots are of people that arent/werent MLB players.
