Well, congrats on your new hire. The process seemed very thorough and it appears that we didn't settle on our second choice , but of coarse , only you guys know that for sure.
Seems that a majority of the fans and press are happy and complimenatry with your selection. Of coarse there will be the detractors, naysayers and doubters, but don't take it personal. Years of losing has a way of draining even the most avid fan of their kool-aid supply.
Ken Whisenhunt seems bright, motivated, hungry, innovated guy with a no nonsense attitude. He seems to have all the tools of what it takes to be a successful head coach in todays NFL.
Now here is the real truth of your decision. His success or failure will now lie at both of your feet. You see, your front office is out of excuses. New stadium, concession, parking , and naming rights to the stadium have removed all the past excuses for us not being able to compete in this league. I hope you both realize that Whiz (it's what I prefer to call him) will need you guys to step up this off season and supply him all the remaining pieces of the puzzle to get us a spot in next years playoff.
This may be hard for you to accept, but you might have to even over pay to get the 2 or 3 free agents we need this off season to put this team over the top. If you think we can stand pat while the new guy gets his feet wet, you're wrong. YOU are the guys that recently stated how this team is close and doesn't need to be completely rebuilt. We will not let you forget you said that. If you think this product as it stands is a lock for the playoffs next year because we have a new coach you are VERY wrong. We as fans are depending and EXPECTING you to do everything you can for "our" new coach.
Whiz and Clancy will greatly appreciate a top flight CB that can take away half off the field. Do us all a favor a make your mind up now to sign Asante Samuels if he hits the market. If the Pats resign him then look to Nate Clement. The other guy that could unleash this defense would be OLB Adalius Thomas. Make no mistake. These 2 players will cost a bundle, but the return on the investment could mean playoffs. A tough decision also lies ahead with Leonard Davis. With Whiz coming here , Big may actually look forward to returning here next year.
And finally, remember this. If Whiz fails for any reason, you both will be responsible and appear to be a front office that cannot get out of the way of itself. It will be very foolish on your part to not give Whiz everything he needs to assure success. From players, to coaches to what he wants served for dinner at trainign camp. Anything less and you both risk looking like the 2 biggest idiots in the NFL. Especially standing in that brand new stadium with 25,000 empty seats.
You are out of excuses.
Sincerely,
slanidrac16

PS

With only 20 wins in the last 64 games, 1000s of opposing fans in your brand new stadium costing your team their home field advantage, and yet another new coach, you already look like the biggest goofballs in the NFL and you ran out of excuses last season.

On the positive side there will be more room to tailgate next season and a winning season will have 1000's of people jumping back on the bandwagon. Until then make sure the concessionaires keep the adult beverages cold.

Not sure I agree with that statement. I kind of like the Patriots model of adding moderately-priced free agents to fill niches. If you look at the most successful franchises of the 2000's, the Eagles and Patriots, they add free agents sparingly, and build their teams primarily with the draft, while stock-piling draft choices. At most they'll add one high-priced free agent per year, e.g. DE Darren Howard for the Iggles last year, and OLB Roosevelt Colvin for the Patriots a couple seasons ago. If you look at one of the most unsuccessful franchises of the 2000's, the Redskins, they spend wildly on free agents almost every year, and have little to show for it.

If we do add ONE major free agent this offseason, I hope he's a solid veteran cornerback. That is the place that really needs addressed in free agency in my opinion, maybe even to the point of overpaying a little.

It's amazing how many quality players the Patriots get drafting at the bottom like they do and how they've been able to build in a system that allots only 7 regular draft picks per year because if you hit on every guy you drafted it would still take 4 or 5 years to build a solid roster of drafted players.

Meanwhile the Cards drafting at the top every year are lucky to get more than a couple and missing on an entire draft like they did in 2002 can really hurt.

not necessarily amazing but certainly true....i don't know the pats scouting budget, but i know ours was for the longest time woefully very low...that usually means you wind up with scouts like me!!! i believe we have turned that around and now have a good budget and far more qualified people in the loop....let's see what happens....belicheck and co are not the "cooolest and sexiest"....they just keep winning.

Nice thing for the Pats is they don't have to overpay for a top ten pick as they never have one. When you pay big dollars on a top ten player you really need a huge return on your investment. Sometimes I think drafting in the top ten keeps you drafting in the top ten if your pick doesn't pan out.

by the way, I have been a VERY LOYAL fan for 32 years spending thousands
of $$$ on this team traveling to games to camp and merchandise on this team
and all I have been rewarded with with is 4 playoff games and only one win.
There has to be more, unless onwnership screws this up. I'm not talking 8 or
9 win seasons, I want to see this team win 10-12 games for a period of time.

No way we get Briggs and Samuel. With a bundle of teams with salary cap space it will be a war just to get one big time player. I would be estatic if we just got one impact defender.

The Pats are a great example of following a succesfull startagy and staying with it. That's why they stockpile picks and why they become good NFL players. They don't have to start in the first year. They work the way up for a year or two and then if they are ready they play in the spot of the overpriced vet whos years are catching up to him. The team is always sound (with some exceptions for injury) and ready to go from training camp day one.. The new guys know they are going to have to play at a high level or the big pay check will never come.

I'm actually not too far away from joining the 40-year club myself (1969)...

We should celebrate the wonders of being loyal Cardinal fans by drinking ourselves into submission, and passing out in our own bodily fluids.

Fun times.
