When Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers, the Washington Commanders were an easy destination for the former Pro Bowl wide receiver.

"I like winners," Samuel said Thursday during his media availability. "I'm not one of your biggest losers. So, they went to the NFC championship. I've been knowing (GM) Adam Peters for a while........They've got a good team for sure, and they were just standing out."

Samuel said he's bringing his "dog mentality" to Washington and couldn't wait to catch passes from quarterback Jayden Daniels. He said he learned all about Daniels from his friend and former 49ers teammate Brandon Aiyuk. Aiyuk was a teammate of Daniels for one season at Arizona State, and they are close. Samuel said Aiyuk has been talking about Daniels dating back to the quarterback's two years at LSU.

What was the most important thing Samuel said on Thursday? He's motivated for this opportunity and plans to reward Washington's faith in him.

"I'm very motivated," Samuel said. "I'm just ready to get back to work, ready to get around a group of guys, meet with the players and just go from there."

Samuel again made it clear that he plans to reward Washington's faith in him.

"That meant a lot," Samuel responded when asked about the Commanders reworking his 2025 contract, guaranteeing him his entire salary for the season. "By not stepping on the field for this team, not meeting everybody in the building, it just kinda shows what they think. For me, on my end, they put this much trust in me to do the things they did as far as my contract; I can't come in here and let them down. I gotta give it my all."

A healthy and motivated Samuel could make Washington's offense even more dangerous in 2025, which would be a scary proposition for the rest of the NFL.
