Defending champion Centerville falls in semifinals of State B girls basketball tourney

HURON — Fifth-seeded Bennett County and sixth-seeded Sanborn Central-Woonsocket will play for the championship in the state Class B girls basketball tournament on Saturday.

The teams, which posted semifinal wins on Friday, are set to meet at 7:45 p.m.

Other games Saturday include Deubrook Area vs. Harding County for seventh place at noon, Parkston vs. Lyman in the consolation championship at 1:45 p.m. and Centerville vs. Dell Rapids St. Mary for third place at 6 p.m.

Friday's Games​


Semifinal (Sanborn Central-Woonsocket 45, Dell Rapids St. Mary 43) — Liz Boschee's conventional three-point play with four seconds capped an 8-0 run in the final three minutes for SCW. Boschee finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Bartholow added 10 points and nine rebounds and Kaylie Robinson nine and 10.

Jenna Miller scored 15 points, Brianna Griffin 14 and Madala Hanson nine for DRSM. Maddyn LeBrun collected 10 rebounds.

Semifinal (Bennett County 44, Centerville 41) — Sisrters Peyson (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Reagan (10 points, 12 rebounds) combined to lift Bennett County past top-seeded and defending state champion Centerville.

Emma Marshall led the Tornadoes with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Izzie Eide added 12 and six.

Consolation Semifinal (Parkston 56, Deubrook Area 52, OT) — Deubrook Area again went down to the wire to try to get its first-ever state tournament win. Peyton Trooien's field goal beat the buzzer and tied the game at 50 at the end of regulation.

The score was 52-52 before Keeara Oakley's field goal snapped the tie with 41 seconds left in overtime. Morgan Maxwell's two free throws with 17 seconds remaining iced the victory. Oakley notched 17 points and Berkley Ziebart 16 points and six rebounds for Parkston.

Deubrook Area's Mataya Gouws led all players with 23 points and eight rebounds. Kylee Johnson and Matte Bauman each had eight points.

Consolation Semifinal (Lyman 57, Harding County 48) — Four players scored in double figures for Lyman. Bree Smart led the way with 15 points, Mak Scott 13, Brooke Palmer 12 and Jordyn Scott 11. Mak Scott also hauled in 10 rebounds.

Harding County received 15 points from Kamryn Padden and 11 each from Macey Wendt and Kaylen Padden.
