Defense wins championships

Does the old belief that defenses win championships still apply if you can put together an offense like the Colts have. With the Cards young guns at WR and QB if the OL can step up I expect the Cards to have an offense capable of scoring 20 plus points a game. I expect this to happen and a 9-7 record and division champs.

That is a perfect description of today's NFL because of the rule changes.

Ranking in Yards allowed by last 6 SuperBowl teams:

Bears 5th
Colts 19th
Steelers 5th
Seahawks 17th
NE 9th
Eagles 12th

Ranking in points scored:
Bears 2nd
INDY 3rd
Steelers 9th
NE 4th
Eagles 8th

What that tells me is you need an opportunistic, but not necessarily dominating, defense and a top caliber offense to take advantage of the opportunities the defense gives you. Going three and a FG attempt, like the Cardinals have done, gets you 5-11.
