Just watching yet another letdown reminded me so much of being a Suns fan during the Mike D'Antoni years.

#1. Both coaches prospered by having an elite player run their offense and leading them to inflated win / loss records.

#2. Both coaches stubbornly refuse to adapt to what the opposition is currently doing.

#3. Both coaches feel they are beyond reproach on their "system".

#4. Both coaches surround themselves with nepotistic assistants.

#5. Both coaches had too much control in the organization when it came to drafting and bringing in talent.

#6. Both coaches would rather "fun and gun" than play a more traditional offense.

#7. Both coaches led teams that were prone to late game collapses.

#8. Both coaches began a slow erosion of young talent and an over reliance on older players.

I would disagree with #6.

The play calling was horrific on the last drive from their own end zone. 2 straight runs up the gut of the ravens defense? They were just playing for the punt ... :barf:

Mr. Green has clarified that great minds think alike. :)

Sadly my hopes that I was the inspiration for a big commentary column have been dashed  :D

you really need to come up with a better example than that: they did get a first down on that series

it was the next one where they threw two of the three plays where they had to punt

Precisely. We are basically a run and shoot team with our pass to run ratio. With Warner, you could run the football equivalent of 7 seconds or less. With Kolb, Leinart, Hall, Skelton, and DA...not so much.

Either the Whisenhunt and D'Antoni comparisons are super obvious and it is a coincidence that a poster on here did the story the day after I posted it or someone REALLY liked my comparison

Haha, I'd be lying if I said I've never been inspired to write after reading some stuff from the board, but usually it's a topic I agree with and decide would make a good column.

Indeed, my bad. :)

Thanks, but you raised some points I didn't even think of. Nicely done.

In a van...down by the river.
Chris, being a tired Suns fan myself(as you well know :)...and having the disdain for D'Antoni that i do)...i've often made this type of connection before concerning the bizzarre comparisons of Mike Martz and Mike D'Antoni.

I'm not the authority on Whiz like many of you but it seems that arrogance and stubborness can really get in the way,and keep a talented man from becoming a great man>coach.
