Denzel Washington Has Deja Vu
Source: Variety
April 25, 2005

Denzel Washington is in final talks to reunite with director Tony Scott and producer Jerry Bruckheimer for Touchstone's romantic thriller Deja Vu, reports Variety.

Washington will play an FBI agent with the ability to travel back in time. He falls in love with a woman as her murder approaches.

The trio last teamed up for Crimson Tide, the 1995 submarine thriller that grossed $159 million worldwide. Scott and Washington teamed for last year's Man on Fire, which grossed more than $100 million worldwide.

Deja Vu was a spec script by Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilli.

It's Deja Vu Again for Tony Scott
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
October 20, 2005

Tony Scott is returning to direct Walt Disney Pictures' Deja Vu now that it appears the project will be able to film in New Orleans as originally planned, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The action-thriller is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and stars Denzel Washington. But its future had been in doubt since Scott left the project this month after its key location, New Orleans, was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Scott was adamant about shooting in the city for creative reasons -- in part because the script called for a dock and ferry in key scenes.

But the director reconsidered when he learned that the city's dock was being repaired and would, along with parts of the city, be ready for a winter shoot.

If the plan goes through, Deja Vu would be the first film to shoot in New Orleans post-Katrina. The studio said it hopes to begin shooting in New Orleans in late January or early February.

The screenplay by Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii centers on an FBI agent who travels back in time to save a woman from a murder and falls in love with her in the process.

Ehhh, I was iffy on this flick. Denzel was his usual good self, but the premise just made no sense to me. I was lost at quite a few scenes. Boring at times too. Thumbs down overall.

I enjoyed the movie.

There seemed to be a few too many scenes which caused this movie to run too long.

But overall it was entertaining.

It just left me wondering why Denzel doesn't do big "acting" movies anymore. It seems like he puts out popcorn pieces and calls it a day.

My dad borrowed it from a friend and we say it on Sunday. I really liked it, but the one thing that was confusing was the ending......

If he dies in the past, then how would he be there in the future? That was kind of dumb.

Sub the word "spoiler" for quote in the quote tags to hid that info if you want to.

Wasn't it the future Denzel that went to the past that died? Because his past self didn't know who the hottie was when they met again for the first time.

They addressed that in the plot. There was a scene where they are all in the control room discussing how there could be 2 parellel realities or one just takes the place of the other.

I recently watched this one. I thought it was a fun movie. I'm a sucker for time travel movies.

I thought this was pretty funny:

Tony Scott and Val Kilmer had shirts made for the crew that said "Malcolm X, Jesus Christ, and Jim Morrison: Deja Vu. How Can We Fail?" Denzel Washington played Malcolm X in Malcolm X (1992), James Caviezel played Jesus Christ in The Passion of the Christ (2004), and Kilmer played Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991).
