Well, it looks like Derek is going to be the guy this year, or at least for the first few games this year.

Rather than jump out of a window, or cry like a little girl, I decided to look at some positives that Derek brings with him to Arizona, that we Cardinal fans can cling to cling to while the rest of the football world laughs at us.

1. Derek Anderson got out of Cleveland.

I know what you're thinking here... this sounds like it's more of a positive for Browns fans; but alas, that would be a mistake on your part. See, there is a long history of people having great success after leaving Cleveland.

For instance, the Brown's themselves won a Super Bowl once they split town. (Granted they had to change their name to the Ravens, but it happened.)

Coach Bilichick reinvented himself as the modern-day Vince Lombardi, leading an irrelevant Patriot organization to 4 Super Bowl appearances and the most recent NFL dynasty.

Heck, even Drew Carey didn't become famous until he left for California. Trust me everyone, with Derek Anderson out of Cleveland, we are going to rock!!!

2. NFL Swag

Swag is one of those words I picked up on from one of my wife's People magazines. I think it relates to cool and unique stuff. Well, I remember seeing people walking around U of P Stadium during the Playoffs wearing half Arizona / half St. Louis Kurt Warner Jerseys. We can totally do this again with Derek Anderson jerseys. I know most people haven't checked yet, but the price of his Cleveland jersey on ebay is less than the price of a Jake Plummer jersey (still available in the team store). It'll be the most cost effective dual jersey in the league. Better pick one up quickly though, I have a feeling there is going to be a HUGE demand for them.

3. Rocket for an arm.

Derek Anderson can throw the ball on a "rope" like no QB we've had in Arizona...in maybe forever. Can't you just see Coach Whiz sending Fitz, Breaston, and Steven Williams all on a deep fly route with Derek Anderson firing bullet passes to them every other play? You want to make history? You've got to have a rocket. Consider Neil Armstrong. First man to ever walk on the moon - he needed a rocket to get there. (Granted, he didn't use his rocket to go to the local convenience store for a pack of smokes - and Derek doesn't seem to be able to throw at any other velocity than rocket speed... but he's got the rocket arm, and that's all that counts.)

4. His last name is Anderson.

Ok, this one admittedly is a stretch; but, there have been a lot more famous Anderson's in this world than there are Leinart's. Anyone remember Jamaal Anderson of the pathetic Falcons upsetting Denny Green's unstoppable Viking squad to get into the Superbowl?

Hans Christian Anderson wrote many of the world’s greatest fairy tales. Lord knows if we win this year with Derek, it will be one of the world’s greatest fairy tales ever.

I don't know if they're related or not; but, I wouldn't mind sharing a seat next to Pamela during a game. :wink2: Think about it people.

Finally, on the occasion when Derek makes a bone-headed play, I don't know about you, but I'll be saying in my best Matrix voice, "Mr. Anderson... you disappoint me." Awesome!!! It'll never get old.

5. Whiz picked Derek over Matt.

At least it seems that way as of this writing. I'm not as long a suffering fan as some of you. I wasn't around during the Coryell years. (Regrettably, I was a Dallas fan back then.) That said, in the 22 years that I've bled Cardinal Red, sweated my arse off in Sun Devil Stadium, supported the team during the Buddy Ryan years, Coach Whiz is the greatest thing to happen to this franchise that I can recall. His hiring is the turning point for us. We are no longer a minor league organization. As fans, especially those of us on the East Coast, when spotted wearing a Cardinal jersy we aren't gawked at as if we were the tooth fairy.

If Ken thinks we can win with Derek, then that is good enough for me. I'll support him, just like every other QB we've run onto the field. But this time, I know that Derek Anderson is destined to be a winner in Arizona. The stars have alligned. Championship!

If you're still reading, hopefully you got a chuckle. I'm just as stunned about the recent developments as everyone else is... this is how I vent.

Go Cards!!!

Besides, I can't wait

Well Done!! Even if you missed the best Anderson of them all - O.J. Anderson!! ;)

Everything is food related for me. So I'm thinking he left out Bill Anderson (Big Apple Restaurant in Phoenix - does it still exist?) and Stuart Anderson.

In my business the meaning of SWAG is twofold.

1) Stuff We Are Getting!

2) Stuff We Aren't Getting!

I hope it's door number1.

Fine witness for the DA!

I'm just glad you guys passed on Jimmy Claussen twice--that guy is going to be really really good after a few years.

I predict Anderson throws more picks than TD's if he is indeed what the Whiz decides to roll with! I might have to start calling him something other than the Whiz not sure that is appropriate any more! Not exactly looking like a smart decision maker right now.

Whiz had Max Hall squarely in his sight baby!! ;)

Haha I don't know about that. I was hoping the 49ers would grab Jimmy Clausen though. Too bad, he went 1 pick before Taylor Mays! I bet the 49ers were eyeing him in the second round as well.

If Anderson plays like he did last year the Whiz will become the Was.
