Been a lot of talk about this of late with Reed finally cleared to practice with USC. Reed was supposed to be the heir apparent to Bush and White but during the Notre Dame game last year he suffered a severe knee injury that also caused nerve damage in his leg. He still wears a brace and may have to for the rest of his life. Reed has hinted at it before, but in a story in the LA Times today he comes out and blames Notre Dame for intentionally having the grass at "ankle height" in last years game to slow down the USC players. Reed said as they went out on the field before the game all the USC players imediately commented on how high the grass was and how dangerous it seemed to be, and sure enough, Reed got hurt.

Reed is now in a 5 way battle for playing time at RB with Chauncey Washington slated to start. Washington is the kid who was ineligible 2 years in a row and then remarkably became a B student when USC lost their top 3 RB's(to the draft, Reed to injury).

I've heard about this, other USC players complained about it as well. Teams should get a homefield advantage, but the NCAA should mandate a certain maximum and minimum length for grass to make it somewhat fair and to prevent injuries.

As one USC fan said, the grass should be no taller than Charlie Weis' buzzcut.

You play a game your entire life, and you're bitching about the field?

No wonder why we have soo many attorneys in this great country.

I was at the game in South Bend.....the grass was DEFINITLY noticable. They made mention of it the week before the game but even i was surprised how tall it was...

Didn't seem to slow down Reggie Bush too much though......
