NEW YORK — The Detroit Pistons have done it, beating the New York Knicks in Game 2 of their first-round series on Monday to mark their first playoff win since 2008.
Much like Game 1, the Pistons again looked to be in control of the game entering the fourth quarter. The first time around in the series-opener, pretty much everything that could go wrong did. In their second chance, the Pistons didn't blow their shot, winning Game 2 100-94 to tie the series.
After struggling mightily in Game 1, first-time All-Star Cade Cunningham was spectacular, particularly in the first half, scoring 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting to help the Pistons jump out to a first-half lead that they were able to hang on to in an incredibly physical game. He finished the game with 33 points and was the engine for everything they did on offense.

Both teams felt frustrated with the referees throughout the game as the crew in New York continued this postseason's trend by letting the teams play.
In the end, the Pistons were able to pull off the upset with some clutch shot-making to even up the series, and did so without big man Isaiah Stewart, who missed Monday's game with a knee injury. His status for Game 3 is up in the air.
The Pistons will now head to Detroit having done their job, splitting the games in New York City and taking back homecourt advantage. The Pistons host the Knicks on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena at 7 p.m. on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and TNT.
