Deuce Lutui - G - Cardinals
The 49ers recently worked out free agent G Deuce Lutui.

The Cardinals' starting right guard since 2006, Lutui was stripped of his starting job last season after reporting to camp significantly overweight for the second straight year, and has drawn no other known interest on the open market. He'd be competing with Daniel Kilgore in San Francisco. Still just 28, Lutui has the ability to be a starting NFL lineman, but may no longer have the drive.

This is a great move for the 9ers if they sign Douche.

They're guaranteed to to have a O-lineman who will hardly ever be in shape, guaranteed at least one or two false starts or holding penalties per game and relegated to special teams.

I really think Deuce's best years are behind him. He has some talent, but has talked the last few years of staying in shape and getting the weight down, yet has done neither.

Likely scenario: SF makes an offer, he fails the physical and signs a 1yr deal w/ the cards.... again.

Be careful what you wish for... Harbaugh has shown an impressive ability to motivate players. If Deuce ends up there, we could have a guy with real skill and motivation anxious to show up the Cardinals. And especially the stinking 49ers... ugh.

Deuce is a good player, I have never seen on the field and think "this guy is bad", more like he is solid regardless of the weight condition

The rage/hate the Deuce Lutui--a lifetime Arizona Cardinals fan--has inspired in some of the "fans" on this board continues to totally baffle me.

anything derogatory directed at Deuce has been caused by Deuce's own inability to stay in shape.

Bingo. Love Deuce as a man, but his work ethic has sharply declined the past 2 years IMO.

And yea, it does affect his play when he has to pull for run blocking. You need some athleticism to do that.

I think Deuce needed to be handled different, one size does not fit all players, yes he was shocked when cinninati failed his physical, I thought he would stand up, still think He will. but he does not respond well to negativety, neither does Beanie, but that is all I see this staff able to respond with.

I only know that whiz called Deuce out in the press and continued to throw dirt on him, after Deuce stayed quiet about the tender, keeping it house- swings both ways.
I think Deuce is better than Snyder at RG, we'll see.

You don't like how a player was treated on the Cards? Color me shocked.

How did yoiu feel?

Did you like Whiz coming out and ripping the quiet Deuce in the Media- without a contract? Deuce was not signed, Sendlein and others signed the tenders, but Deuce was not signed as a RFA-

I mean understand your shockingness about me, but what other head coach came out in the press ripping a starter like that? not under contract? like ever?

Yup I have zero problem with a coach calling a player out about his weight and lack of commitment to the team. Which is precisely what deuce shows when he balloons up like he does.

ok what other coaches?

Ok but what other Head Coaches do that in the press? I mean Parcells pick and chose a couple timed media things in his coaching career? but I don't remember him doing to a player who was not signed by the team?

Branch, Watson, Herman Johnson, Whiz was consistant about bustinn balls in the press, I just don't remember other coaches, and when a player does the same? Edge was benched, Q was traded, Matt was cut, Beanie was benched? Yes He's the Head Coach but the deeper question is::

what players have developed and improved their worth under Whisenhunt?

Even Russ Grimm is a scrub coach now?

I may be wrong but i think a contract for Deuce, Sendlein and other 2nd tier players could have made a difference, A work out bonus, some kind of thank you for our first SB appearance ever, but no we had no drafted Cards signed for 5 years! We low balled with the lowest possible tenders and dared them to go elsewhere.

Whiz'reminds me of
Clint Eastwood unforgiven, If you shoot at me I'll Kill you, your wife, all your friends and burn your damned house down, Bury NED right and don't cut up no ****** or I'll come back and kill every one of you SOB's!

with a team like that who needs opponents! Come on over Joey we'll pay you 9mill ayear , regardless how many years past your prime? you to Alan Faneca, wouldn't want pay a drafted Cards player in their prime anything, that would be silly.

All coaches handle players in differant ways & obviously Wiz wanted to inspire Deuce to get in shape...which hasnt happened in 2 yrs. Obviously you hate Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Mike Ditka, etc because they would've shipped Deuce out long ago!!!

With all due respect.

If ANY coach, handled their team like you expect. The inmates would be running the asylum within 3 days.

Duece is a fat, lazy, free loader, and he will prove it on another team. And while you will find every reason, illogical or logical, to blame our head coach, EVEN AFTER the player leaves the team, it still won't make any of it make sense.

These are proffession atheletes, and while they are handled like little kids at times, they also are paid to do a job.

Lutui has to come into camp in shape. He doesn't do it year after year. That is his fault, no two ways about.

The main thing I question with Lutui, who I like alot, is going into his 1st shot at free agency, and a big payday, he let himslef ballon to over 400 lbs. and was cut by the Bengals, or failed their physical because of his weight. Doing that raises a question mark to me. I wish he'd stay in his shape because he'd be a very good OG, way better than Snyder. In fact, he didn't really have to even stay in shape. Just not himslef balloon to over 400 lbs. every off season. If he stayed around 370, the Cards probably wouldn't have evn been all that upset.

or

there is alot of ways players are handled.
or retire, sign with the Dolphins, Giants, rams, niners or seahawks, chiefs ect.....be traded to the Ravens like Q or the Jets like Wells,
be benched like Edge and Beanie, or just cut like Matt Leinart, Alan Branch and others.

I know he's the head coach, and makes hard decisions, I can't think of any other Head Coach that dragged a player through the mud like Whiz did Deuce, when He wouldn't sign a low ball tender, was not under contract and had not said a word about it in the press.

I can see your all about being cut throat, and sinking your fangs, Deuce could have been handle different, Any drafted Cardinal could have been signed in Whiz's first 5 yearsa at HC, after a SB and playoff appearance?
I remember no glory or rewards, just kicks in the players nuts, I might be wrong. but that is how you fall apart like we have.
