OK, so I finally got my new system (AMD 64 3000+), and everything is working fine, except I'm having a problem with the sound cards. I use two soundcards, one consumer-end sound card (like a soundblaster) and one pro-audio card (for 24bit/96khz recording).

If I set up the computer to just use my standard sound card, everything works fine.

If I set up the computer to just use my recording card, everything works fine.

When they're both installed at the same time, there are conflicts that lock the system. I can't find any IRQ conflicts, and I didn't have this problem on Win98. Any ideas? I've heard that changing the IRQs in the BIOS doesn't affect WinXP because it uses ACPI or ACDI or something (basically the software that auto-sets the IRQs). Any ideas guys on how I can use the cards in tandem without conflicts?

I've thought about maybe going to a USB mouse and running one sound card in the then available IRQ spot, but how can I change that if my BIOS edit doesn't work in WinXP?

I'm lost! Help!! :help: :)

 Sorry man.

Have you tried different slots for the cards. It may be an addressing problem but I am not sure what the fix for that would be.

Man, I tried everything. I think maybe the most frustrating part is that windows won't allow you to reset the IRQs manually, and it overrides the IRQ settings from the system's BIOS.

It turns out it was just a crappy sound card. I had originally bought a $40 philips sound card and that was the device giving me all the conflicts. I took it back and replaced it with a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and haven't had any problems since.
