OK, Webb (2.67 ERA) pitches tonight vs. Pettite (8.18 ERA).

It would sure be nice to see us win this series. "Bats need to come alive."

I didn't like the batting coach last year, and he's not impressive this year. Part of the Bomel package. Our OBP isn't that hot -- it only seems like we're walking more -- at the current rate, we'll have less BB than by the end of April 2005.

Brandon sure deserves a "W" today. The longer he gets caught up in the Randy Johnson syndrome (remember when he couldn't buy a win, no matter how well he pitched?), the more it will affect his confidence, which will then affect his pitching.

The Sidewinder game is on TV- channel 644 on Directv. It's called the ALT channel. Nippert is pitching and thought some of you would be interested in watching it before the Dback game comes on. Nipperts lookin solid.

If Ortiz continues to struggle after 5-7 starts, Melvin should strongly consider bringing Nippert up and putting Ortiz in the pen

Friday nights game:

1) Counsell
2) Byrnes
3) Tracy
4) Gonzo
5) Jackson
6) Easley
7) Hudson
8.Snyder
9) Webb

Not a bad lineup.... Hudson has been dissapointing in the field and especially at the plate. Green has the night off which is very wierd yet I like it. He usually plays every night. In 4 games against Houston, Webb has a 1.98 ERA. GO DBACKS!

"CoJack" is eating things up. Hopefully all of Zennys predictions will be true. Best OBP on the team with 7 BB in 10 games, and now 2 HR. Great going.

Does any know if Estrada is a notorius slow starter? Snyder's been doing well, but I'd like to see something out of the guy we gave up Villareal for.

He likes to be called CJ according to an article last year when they were trying out nicknames on him. Did not like 'CoJack' when it was suggested.

I sort of like Conor JacksOne. But CJ it is.

And yeah -- he'll be a true stud. I recall two years ago people asking who I'd put my money on -- Carlos Quentin, or Conor Jackson -- at the time Carlos was always rated higher overall -- and much as I love what Carlos Quentin brings, and hope we'll see him up here soon, I had to go with Conor because of the brain-blowing plate discipline and that gorgeous swing. When we have both these young men in our line-up, it will be so cool! And then within a year, two at most -- Conor, Carlos Quentin, Stephen Drew, Justin Upton, Chris Young... Wow.

Last night, with Conor Jackson, I was most impressed with his at bat in the bottom of the third. After, bases loaded DP in the bottom of the first.....he hung in there with Pettitte, and punched the ball through the infield and into LF. You couldn't have thrown the ball any better......dude is going to be an AllStar if he keeps taking what the pitcher is giving him.

Actually, without announcing it, BoMel has set a platoon at both RF (Easley) -- based on Green's performance vs. lefties last season and overall hitting so far this year -- and C (Snyder vs. lefties), and they seem to be working well.

If Jackson were more experienced, I'd say (for this season) move him to RF so Tony Clark could bat every day. It's a potent bat (and another righty vs. lefties, as a switch hitter).

Shawn Green is showing signs of not being able to whip the bat around at the plate as he used to.

All this talk about Gonzo deteriorating. Not just for sentimental reasons, but I'd take Gonzo over Green anytime this season.

GOLDARN IT! If there's ONE thing I hope the new Josh Byrnes regime does, it's stop bouncing young guys around positions. Conor barely has a handle on 1B defense, having played LF and 3rd in the past, and you want to move him so he will NEVER get comfortable, so that Tony Clark can prove that the reason they called it a 'career year' is because they don't happen again!?

You want to screw with CJ's ROY chances, is that it?

Move the OLD guys around, fer cryin' out loud.

No way they move CJ anywhere besides 1B. Tony Clark has proved that if he plays too much, his bat slows down and he strikes out often. Play CJ the most and let Clark get his spot starts and/or DH opportunities which is where he proved to be at his best last season. Clark is not an everday MLB first baseman.

CJ has proved so much through the start of this season. I can't remember any rookie coming into this league with such a good eye. He sits there and waits for the pitch he wants which in return pisses off the pitcher. As Thom pointed out in last nights game, CJ could lead the majors this year in most pitches seen if he keeps at this pace. As of today, he ranks 7th in OBP in the NL (15th in all of MLB) with the likes of Derek Lee, Todd Helton, and Morgan Ensberg slightly ahead of him. That just makes me want to get Drew and Q up!

Todays game is against LHP Wandy Rodriquez. This should give CJ another start and I also wouldn't mind Green sitting again. Byrnes and DaVannon, while they may not be RF's, have shown me more and I would almost rather see them play more over Green. Let him come in and DH

I know it s really early but how long do they wait before they bring up some young talent?

Yes he is, actually. Grace was wrong. As the rules read, the 45 days active service doesn't include time after Sept 1 when the rosters expand. Not that there mightn't be some other obscure rules twist, but the way it appears to read, he IS eligible. Premature, of course, and lots of competition this year, but it'd be fun if CJ could make a run for it. Last year was such a waste for him, anyhow.

Anyone know anythink about Fernando Nieve??? He's starting for the Astros today..... He's only 23 and is a righty and if he's anything like Rodriguez, the Astros have an up and coming rotation. Rodriguez impressed the hell out of me last night- He has good velocity to go along with great control and he painted the corners all night. Anyhow, hopefully our bats can wake up as we need to find some offense. Hernandez is goin for us so who knows what we're gonna get..... GO DBACKS!!!
