No major signings but got this from Rotoworld.
Brand Villafuerte - R - Arizona Diamondbacks Jan 21
Diamondbacks signed RHP Brandon Villafuerte to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Villafuerte was released by the Padres last week. He could end up as the 11th or 12th man in Arizona's bullpen, but he probably would have been better off signing elsewhere.
Julio Ramirez - OF - Arizona Diamondbacks Jan 21
Diamondbacks signed outfielder Julio Ramirez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Ramirez spent the first three weeks of last season as Anaheim's fifth outfielder, but he got all of one at-bat during that time. After being sent down, he hit .279 with a 729 OPS for Triple-A Salt Lake. He'd be a pretty weak option as a reserve.
Brad Cresse - C - Montreal Expos Jan 21
Expos acquired catcher Brad Cresse from the Diamondbacks for a player to be named.
If the Expos were a normal team, we'd criticize them for giving up a player for Cresse instead of just claiming him on waivers. However, they probably had to do it this way in order to save some money. Cresse no longer looks like much of a prospect, but he could bounce back offensively after two down seasons and maybe someday become a part-time player in the majors.
Jesse Orosco - R - Arizona Diamondbacks Jan 21
Jesse Orosco, who signed a minor league deal with Arizona back in November, has decided to retire.
But.... who will we make age jokes about now? Orosco, who turns 47 on April 21, holds the major league record of 1,252 pitching appearances. He ends a 24-year career with an 87-80 record, 144 saves and a 3.16 ERA
