Good deal.

Upgrades end of rotation and upgrades bullpen by pushing Owings back into the bullpen.

Not awful. But to be honest, he's not much better than Duke or Owings. Still, a pretty decent #4 or #5 on most teams.

I like this move. Particularly when you look at what we didn't have to give up.
Gonna be interesting to see if Collmenter can make it... seems like teams are getting to him the 2nd time around. Marquis is a nice piece of insurance to add more quality to the back end of the rotation...

Now - WTH are we going to do about First, Third and Second base?? :bang:

Solid #4 or #5 pitcher and they didn't give up anything signficant for him. Good trade, not anything special but the type of trade that helps out the team...putting Owings back in the pen strengthens middle relief too.

Now if they could just somehow unload Duke and fool a team in to taking Galarragga off our hands.

8-5 with a 3.95 ERA is decent

He's having a pretty decent year. Over his career though he's been average at best. Though he's had to face stronger competition than what he'll face in the NL West.

Not a bad trade. Should shore up the #4 or #5 spot the rest of the season.

I'd like to see Marquis at the #4 and Owings at #5. Collmenter can be the 7th inning guy the Dbacks have been searching for. Seeing Collmenter after facing a different pitcher for 6 innings would be a nightmare for hitters IMO. I really think he'd be dominate as a 7th inning or setup guy.

His record against NL West teams is historically very good. Didn't have to give up anything and he's an innings eater. Like the move.

Well, the D-Backs got a guy to eat innings on the back of the rotation. Marquis isn't going to wow anyone, but he will generally keep a team in the game. He's supposed to be a four-pitch guy, but he's primarily a fastball/slider pitcher with a half-decent cutter. His fastball's been hammered of late. He likes to work off the plate with fastball/slider to set up his cutter. He's not going to get a lot of swings and misses. If he's on his game, he'll get a lot of ground balls, especially if he's spotting his fastball.

He had one great year for the Rockies, which is encouraging, since Chase Field and Coors Field are somewhat similar in how the ball flies. The downside is he has bone chips in his shoulder (IIRC) not long after that and hasn't really been the same since.

Collmenter ... I think you're right about him being a long reliever/set up guy. His stuff is very mediocre. He's all about delivery and control. He can't make it through a lineup more than once because is best pitch is a 78MPH change up off of a 85MPH fastball. Hide him between a traditional starter and a hard-throwing closer, and he can be devastating because hitters' timing is so whacked. But make him throw six innings and guys will just sit on his fastball. He's a two-pitch pitcher who will never be any better as a starter as we've seen, and now that he's facing teams for the second time, they need to move him to the bullpen now.
