Friday, July 8
CIN Ramon Ortiz, RHP (4-6, 6.59)
Reds (33-51) @ ARI Brad Halsey, LHP (5-7, 4.41)
Diamondbacks (41-45)

Scouting Report:
Ortiz seemed to be heading down a dark, yet familiar, path in his last outing against the Astros on Saturday. Pitching on just two days' rest, he let the Astros hang a four spot on him in the first inning. But he went on to retire 15 straight batters and pitch the Reds to victory -- his second in his last three starts. Now Ortiz will be looking to do something he hasn't done all year, and that's win consecutive starts.

Halsey picked up the win in his last start. Though he didn't have his best stuff, the lefty battled through 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs. Prior to that start, Halsey had lost five straight starts.

Saturday, July 9
CIN Brandon Claussen, LHP (4-6, 3.64)
Reds (33-51) @ ARI Brandon Webb, RHP (8-5, 3.36)
Diamondbacks (41-45)

Scouting Report:
Claussen has allowed a grand total of two earned runs over his last two starts, yet both have been losses. He hasn't been getting much help from his offense or his defense. The left-hander gave up four runs, none of which were earned, on five hits over six innings with a walk and four strikeouts in his last outing against the Astros on Sunday.

Webb suffered the loss on Monday afternoon against the Cardinals, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over seven innings. St. Louis used a patient approach against the sinkerballer, and tried to get him to get his pitches up a little bit.

Sunday, July 10
CIN Eric Milton, LHP (4-9, 7.20)
Reds (33-51) @ ARI Gosling
Diamondbacks (41-45)

Scouting Report:
The long, storied struggles of Milton might finally be going by the wayside. He's posted two consecutive quality starts, including a 6 1/3-inning outing against the Giants on Tuesday in which he allowed just three runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Milton has begun using his lower half more to drive toward the plate, and it's led to an increase in velocity and effectiveness.

Diamondbacks blow a 3-run lead as Griffey hits a 3-run homer off Alcanza in the 8th. Cormier gives up the go ahead run in the 9th. 4-3.

Arizona down to their last two outs.

Diamondbacks lose to the lowly Reds 4-3. Can things get any worse or will this team have a big second half?

I literally dread these series against bad teams at home. We've really done badly the last three years in these situations. I put on the radio on my way home, and heard Halsey get Casey out. When Melvin went to the reliever, I just knew Griffey was going to tag one.

If this team wants to turn it around in the second half, they HAVE to start winning at home. It's amazing we are 3 games under .500 at the BOB and are still in second place.

I just feel the diamondbacks just don't have a clue on how to advance runners...

This smiley makes no sense.

Why would the little yellow guy smash his monitor if he got a blue screen? The monitor has nothing to do with it.

Things will get worse and no the second half will not be better.

Sorry you asked?

Well today things dont get any better. Have a 2-1 lead into the 8th inning, where Webb gives up 5 runs (a granny + 1) and we are losing yet again 6-2. No supprise, this team has no life, be it offense or bullpen....

Thank goodness we do not play for 3 days this week. Thats 3 less losses.

This team needs a kangaroo court. Tony Clark can preside.

They used to have one when Buck was here, but dropped it somewhere in 2001 or so - veterans know how to get it done and go about there business blahdiddyblahblah.

Well, those veterans, maybe - but these veterans clearly do NOT know how to get it done. They may be an ego-less clubhouse, which right now doesn't sound so effective, but they also seem pretty baseball-dysfunctional lately. Lack of hits, lack of heart - some aggressive, shared focus on accountability and what you do to get it done is imperative.

And how could anyone watching Webb careening through the eighth leave him in there to try to finish it? Man, that was suicide. Perhaps BoMel should be the first guy fined by the court.

Maybe the Diamondbacks should play all their games on the road. I don't think they could do any worse.

Diamondbacks get a much needed win to end the first half. Gosling pitched great but could not get the win due to the lack of offensive support. Thankfully Tony Clark does it again with a homer. Also, Cintron gets two hits and played very well at second. Props to the bullpen. Cormier, Valverde and Bruney hold the Reds scoreless.

I went to the game today - glad they won. I cringed when Bruney came in, but surprisingly his stuff looked good and he didn't blow any leads. Wahoo!!
