One thing of interest that he did say is that the Cardinals won't alter their position on the wording of the injury waivers for the 1st round picks for this weekends minicamp. They are the only team in the leauge that hasn't done this.

If the players practice this weekend, it will be against the advice of their agents.

Way to start off the relationship with a smack in the nuts.

Any thoughts Jim?

That is if the agents advise their clients to sit out.

Here is my thought, for what it is worth. With one caveat, I could care less if they change the wording. The caveat is, as long as these players are here for any and all classwork they will be going through. That was my biggest issue with Bryant last year. Not that the Cards wouldn't "conform" to what the rest of the NFL is doing or that Bryant wisely stayed out of the physical stuff to avoid injury. What irked me was the ridiculous pissing contest publically and Bryant staying away all together. That set him back further than had he been here and going through the classwork.

As long as both sides understand what they are doing, it shouldn't harm the relationship at all. If the Cards won't alter their waiver, then they cannot expect these players to take the risk and practice in the minicamps.

The only player to sit out was Wendell. Leigh Steinberg had Leonard practice when he was a rookie and he was #2 overall. Every other one of our high draft picks in recent history practiced. Many speculated that Wendell's agent was "green" and wanted to be different.

Is that the Cardinal's reason for not altering the waiver-they want to be different?

Another thing Rod Graves said was that he had called Marcus Robinson's agent repeatedly the last two days and had not received any return calls, indicating quite clearly that the guy doesn't want to come here.

If that's the case then that's Graves' fault.
Waiting until after the draft was a mistake considering he was ready to come here.

I don't know. All I know is that Wendell is the only guy who has sat out mini camp in the past. That is what I was saying. Nothing more...nothing less.

Awww we all knew MR was blowing smoke about his love for the Big Red. It's not that big a deal. Now if we pass on Muhhamed if he becomes available that'll be a real shame. And Graves is like the Lord. They both work in mysterious ways. The guy is allowed to leave w/o a contract, then we call him like mad for two days to give him one???????????

Or maybe, once again, it was Graves being a complete an utter moron where his actions or lack thereof because he believed we were in the driver's seat and had leverage turned a player off - one that we could have used. If the above is true - well, forget, I'm getting tired of bagging on this buffoon named Graves. Let the season start so I can bag on Cowboy Coach Mac instead.

It really was only a matter of time before a player sat out. The money involved is getting too big and agents are not going to risk their income over a waiver.

Like I said, if the player is going to sit out because of the Cards waiver language...fine. That's is the price of doing business on both sides but I think the players should be here for any and all classroom stuff during minicamps. At least make the effort mentally.

ChiCard, I don't think MR was blowing smoke because I think he really believed this would be his single best chance to start. I think the delay by the Cards (understandable) probably made him pause about his desire to play here. Then after the draft and subsequent UDFA period, he could see the amount of competition involved and chose the path of least resistance. Can't blame him for that I guess. He is playing for a big contract and needs to be on the field and there were no longer any guarantees here.

But IIRC, Wendell wanted to be there and sit in on meetings but the Cards told him if he wasn't practicing, don't show up. Is that correct?

If so, I think it's hard to fault him he tried to make the best of a bad situation and we basically played hardball.

Pretty sure you are right although cannot recall for sure. The whole thing stunk and I hope we don't have to go through it again. Best case scenario is everyone participates in minicamps. Worst case, everyone is in the classroom devouring playbooks and schemes. Not this public pissing contest. If that happens again, it will be another step back after stepping forward.

In reference to whether or not we should have made a contract offer to Mr.Robinson, I wasted one of my Fantasy football draft picks on that stiff and he did absolutely nothing. The scary part of that was that David Terrell was injured, the Bears are not loaded at WR and he still didn't get any "Prime Time".

jim, while i envy your access to cards info, i do not envy you the fact that you probably can't really bust out and say anything negative about the cards 'cuz you work for 'em. in addition to being an employee, are you a cardinals fan? would you be if you didn't work for 'em? just curious.

Yes I would be a fan. I was literally born into it. My dad has been the trainer for a long time. 2003 will be his 37th year. I am 26.
