Did the refs make a good Holding call on the Woodhead touchdown?

Here's my two cents...

There was a hold there, and it wasn't a bad call by any means.

But the big problem is the total lack of consistency by the replacement refs. Kerry Rhodes could have easily been called against Gronk on the 2 point conversion, D-Wash had one that could have been called on Gronk, and you can probably point to several other plays that were very similar and weren't called.

The officiating in general is still very poor and the sooner the real refs get back the better -- but to single out that one play and say the Pats got hosed is not a legit argument in my mind. To look at that play within the context of the entire game, well then you might have a legit argument to make.

If I was a Pats fan, I'd be super pissed. And legitimately so. But I'm a Cards fan. Therefore, best officiating call EVER!

Well one thing for sure. The regular refs would have never given the Cards that call. Maybe the replacement refs don't know that all calls in critical situations are supposed to go against Arizona.

Hey NFL, lock those greedy refs out for the rest of the season!

Rodney Harrison said is was, so it is. He is a a former Patriot and a homer.

The better argument would be if Kerry Rhodes should have been called for PI on the 2 point conversion?

I honestly would need to see the play again to decide.

Absolutely a hold!

In the open field, Gronk grabs jersey/shoulder pad as Rhodes tries to turn & doesn't let go til afterwards, keeping him from turning & possibly making the play. That should be called 100% of the time IMO

Even Mike Pereira said it was 'technically' a hold but he had seen worse that were not called

Yes. I didn't think so at first, but he took him by the collar, basically spun him around, and sprung the hole. He held him...it's a no-call on a five yard run in the first quarter, maybe...maybe...but with the game on the line and in the open field at the point of attack, you just don't get away with that. The cardinals would NEVER get away with it.

I'm going to agree with this. The preconceived notion that the Cards suck so all calls go against them is no longer the case with the replacement refs.

I really don't like to make excuses for Cards losses based of ref calls but I can't ignore what I have seen over the years.

absolutely. That one was obvious and would be terrible if they didn't call it.

On replay you could see that Kerry Rhodes had Gronk from behind, but it was damn close. That's what I would expect to go either way 50-50 with regular referees.

I thought the calls or lack of last week went in our favor and this week I would say the same thing. I love the replacement referees so far.

That's a tough one that could go either way. He had a hand on his hip, but he also came around him and made the play on the ball. That is rarely called, unless the hand is pulling or pushing. But it can be called. Honestly, at home, game on the line, I'm a bit surprised the refs didn't flag it. I'd argue it if the did, but it was borderline. I think that if Rhodes hadn't been playing the ball on that, and simply draped him with a hand on the hip, it would be PI.

And I would ask did Woodhead get the first down on that play early where he was clearly a half yard short?

Did Lloyd make that catch that looked like he didn't earlier that was a first down?

Did Edelman get the first down on the 3rd down play where he was very close but they gave him the first easily.

Lloyd catch is good. same as Houslers' that Pats challenged.

The one that sucked was Fitz catch. The near line man said it was acatch then the field judge came out of no where to say incomplete.

On NFL, they said Refs were generous with Pats first down spot coz game on theline and people are watching

Rodney Harrison on the highlight show said that "he hated to say that it WAS a hold".

If the biggest primetime Pats homer says it is a hold..... It's a damn hold.

Yes

No. Should have at least measured but a very bad spot and still short.

I never saw a replay I know one of our guys was saying no catch on the Lloyd play.

Agreed Fitz had the ball but the replay wasn't conclusive so whatever the call on the field was, it was going to stand.

And you can play the game all night. The first FG Gostkowski made one of their lineman tackled a Cardinal to stop him going after the kick. Whiz was going nuts on the sideline.

He was still mad later he was arguing another call and they showed him and you could read his lips saying field goal, if it's a hold call it.

I thought the call on the hold on Woodheads run was good.

Technically a hold, but not flagrant enough to be normally called in that situation.

Blame should go to Kolb for throwing the ball into the dirt on what would have easily been a first down imo.
