He's only 28, been a 5 year starter on one of the most consistently strong defensive units in the NFL.

Steelers | Foote asked for release
Tue, 28 Apr 2009 16:17:07 -0700

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers LB Larry Foote said he is the one who is asking for the team to move him because he wants to be a starter who is a three-down player. Foote only played on first and second down last season. The Steelers will keep him on the roster until after the team's upocoming minicamp so they can try to trade him before releasing him.

To answer your question, no. The reason we did it was obviously to give summer sustenance to the ASFN message board. We now have something meaty to chew on two months.

I think there's an outside chance we may have cut LaBoy to (among other things) make cap room for Foote.

It would allow us to move Dansby outside (or give him freedom to play any of the four LB positions) with Foote then going inside next to Gerald Hayes.

But who knows? It's certainly less than likely (& certainly not a slam-dunk). We'll just have to wait and see.

Cutting Laboy didnt give us any cap space, in fact it costs us more against the cap to cut him then to just leave him on the roster.

I'm not sure people are reading that report well enough. He wants to be a starter. Why would he come here to back up Karlos even for a year?

And even though I am of the camp that Dansby would be best used in some sort of pass rushing role its probably not going to happen.

I would like Foote but I just don't see it happening.

I get that hes from there but why the f would you want to go to Detroit? especially after being on the Steelers. Thats a potential career killer and dip into obscurity.

Personally I think we're done picking up players unless we get someone hurt.I think we end up playing with what we have and we'll play good football once again.

Its time for last years rookies to stand up and be counted and that also means you Branch.Hey POPE I'm talking to you too, you giant clown.Get with the program. You could really be something special.NOW SHOW IT!!!

I think Robinson is gonna be called on to play some defensive end this year.So we will need all that they can get out of Gabe and Branch in a rotation.

I'm also counting on Early Doucet to bust his way onto the scene this year and surprise everyone that he was left out of the party last year and him and Breaston(sp?) will have a riot going over the middle for the tough ones.Thats what happens when you have the greatest weight trainer in the NFL on your team.:D

I don't think any team would clear out 3 starters to sign a player that would likely serve in a backup role on the team

word out of Pitt is that Foote is talking himself out of town --

says he has been reduced to a two down linebacker and that is not what he is. Wants to start and play all three downs. Wont show up to Pitt minicamp.

I have a hard time beleiving that he would be happy as a back up here

it's nice speculation, but they already had the cut for Laboy in the works. I wouldn't mind Foote or Hill.
