I was amazed at all the pounding on Garnette that the referees allowed! One guy basically was allowed to double over Garnette with a blow to the midsection! He was also hit several times earlier in the game, before Peeler, i believe was kicked out for an elbow thrown to Garnette's face! Don't MVP's and stars get "star treatment" during the playoffs? Very interesting...

I've been wondering about that too. I have felt all through the playoffs so far that Garnett hasn't gotten superstar treatment. I've even seen him called for travelling. What's up with that? Maybe the league feels that Minnesota is too small a market and Garnett isn't charismatic enough to make up for that.

On one posession Miller literally had his hand in KG's face and kept it in his face until something was called and KG slapped his arm away and walked away like he wanted to say "I don't care about you anyway".

I have really started to appreciate KG this season. Watching him more closely I think there are a ton of similarities between KG and Amare.

I really like KG also as a player, but I have a hard time finding any similarities between him and Amare Stoudemire.

I hope this will get the league to take a look at this whole ******** of not calling fouls as many fouls in the playoffs. The number of blatant no calls leads to a build up that results in fist fights.

I know I sound old fashioned, but I think fouls should be called for exactly the same behavior every game, every part of every game, and for every player. I think it is a disgrace that one guy can get mauled without a call while trivial contact on a layup leads to a three point play.

I've heard all the excuses, but unless the NBA gets serious about how games are called the NBA will be treated by the public like "big time wrestling" and not really a sport.

Attitude and everything. Not the game actually but how they act.
I saw Amare becoming more and more like that.

I agree with you about the uniformity of calls but I generally like the way the playoffs are refereed compared to the regular season.

My number one dislike about the game is that players get rewarded for 'flopping'. The refs could stop it by simply refusing to ever give a guy a call if he flops. Or call the play as he saw it then give the flopper a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct - which it is. It's also dangerous to other players who can get a leg fallen against by the flopper or trip over him.

The other thing I dislike is also dangerous - guys sliding over in front of a player driving, hoping to get a charging call. He's not attempting to defend the area and usually isn't there early enough to even attempt to defend. I'd rule it as blocking anytime the player did not attempt to defend the area he moved into - refs actually call it backward, they call fouls much more readily on the defender when he's doing what he's supposed to be doing and reward him when he does zilch or worse, when he does nothing but flop.

Bravo! Bravo! I hate the way they call charging the NBA. In college it's even worse, but I won't get into that. IMO they should not call charging unless the defensive player is set long enough to actually give the offensive player a chance to avoid him. I can't stand when they call somebody for charging in the offensive player was already in the air before the defensive player was set. I think revising the charging rules would probably increase offense by at least five points per game.

Yeah, I hate the charging call, too. I even hated it when Kidd was undercutting people for the Suns a few years back.

KG isn't getting the calls he deserves because he hasn't proven himself yet. Later, after he's proven he doesn't need them, he'll get all sorts of calls that he doesn't deserve, which will help prop him up in his declining years. It's the way of the NBA.

Since we're complaining about calls here, I'll just mention that I thought game 6 of the Spurs/Lakers series was a beautifully-officiated game. Who were those guys, anyway, and what had they done with the regular officials?

Charging calls are terribly inconsistent. Little Jake always gets called for blocking but gets hit with charging calls on offense all the time.

None the less, for the Suns to avoid being called for charging on offense means taking an extra dribble and try to get around the guy. None the less, I agree that guys like Najera who constantly flop cheapen the game.

For me the problem isn't that consistency. I actually think the officials are pretty consistent with a very subjective call. I just don't like the way they call charging. Jake Voskuhl gets called for blocking all of the time because it's his primary means of defending. He tries to get into position for the charge and put his hands straight up in the air. He also gets his fair share of those calls going for him. Offensively he gets called for a lot of blocking because he sets a lot of moving picks.

To be fair, a lot of those offensive foul calls aren't his fault. Our guards and wing players had a tendency to start the play before Jake was set. Marbury was especially bad at that.

I'd venture to say that 1 out of every 3 of his offensive fouls are due to this.

Yeah, I should have noted that. I would say that 1 out of every 3 is probably an understatement. The guards might have been at fault as much as 1 out of every 2 times.
