New Texas Longhorns men's basketball coach Sean Miller has a long history coaching college hoops. With two stops at Xavier and more than a decade at Arizona, Miller will now continue his career in Austin. Miller has worked his way up the ranks, but his basketball beginnings go back farther than playing for Pitt. As a kid, Miller made an appearance on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and he was in a movie with Dr. J.
Miller was a dribbling wiz. The Pittsburgh native would travel to basketball camps around the northeast and put on dribbling exhibitions for the attendees. Eventually, he caught the eye of the booking team at the Tonight Show. At the time, the Tonight Show was the only late night talk show on after the news.
Miller actually got to do two segments on Carson. Johnny interviewed the then 14-year-old Miller and then after a break, Miller and Johnny tried some dribbling skills. Johnny's were comedic. Miller's were impressive.
That's not the only brush with fame dribbling Sean Miller had as a kid. He also had a brief appearance in the Dr. J vehicle The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh. The 1979 movie starred Julius Erving and Meadowlark Lemon from the Harlem Globetrotters.
It also featured early film roles by Debbie Allen, Stockard Channing and Harry Shearer. The basketball film is a cult classic with basketball fans. At the time, Dr. J was the biggest basketball star in the nation. Erving paved the way for Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.
Hopefully, Miller is staring soon in One Shining Moment on CBS with the Longhorns soon.

The new basketball coach at Texas was quite an obsession of young me in the mid 80's when he was a TV star. Sean Miller can dribble. pic.twitter.com/uzjxsgMIlf
