This was a funny little comedy. Steve Carell and Paul Rudd worked great together. Zach Gal^&(*&(*kis was hilarious as well. It wasn't drop dead funny but it was funny enough. The parts that didn't really work pass by fast enough. Steve Carell really makes this movie and nails his part. Its definitely worth seeing IMO.

If I were to compare it to another movie I would have to say Shallow Hal. However instead of fat people getting ragged on for most of the movie it's stupid people who get the brunt of the jokes in Dinner for Schmucks. With that said if you enjoyed Shallow Hal you will enjoy Dinner for Schmucks.

I have to say I enjoyed this film - I also liked Shallow Hal :)

It walks a thin line between being mean (ridculing the dinner guests) and being heart-felt but never manages to cross it.

I *hated* Shallow Hal, but somehow I think I'm going to like this movie. Probably because Steve Carrell is in it and Jack Black isn't.

He can say it because Jack Black is a one trick hack who is just woeful

As for this movie, I liked it - but didn't love it ..... caught it on a $5 matinee and that was about right

More amusing that hilarious - the whole movie was pretty much steve carrell and he did very well with the character .......... also paul rudds character did a good job at the end feeling uncomfortable with the joke despite being a part of it .... kind of a hard line to ask of the audience, embrace these odd characters and their charms - even though their screw ups are the basis for all the punchlines

Quite a few funny parts. The end was lackluster though.

Horrible movie. It had a couple funny parts but overall just had no sense of pacing. Also, for a movie that had the word "dinner" it is...they only spend the last 20 minutes or so...actually at the dinner. I found myself asking when are they going to get to the freaking dinner. The movie was way too long.

I would say skip the rental if you have not seen it. Wait for it to come on a movie channel or something.

Is everything
I felt this movie was a waste. It was funny a few times, but it really tried to be touching and serious...and failed.

Agree. This movie pretty much wasted a great cast. Poor Rudd and Szostak - their characters had the unenviable task of trying to make the audience buy into the story and make it heartfelt while all the other characters were just too absurd to believe and shattered any sense of reality. Jermaine Clement was fun though.

Agreed. This movie was a disaster most of the time, which was a bummer because Rudd is one of my favorite actors.

The only good thing about this movie is that it had Jemaine from Flight of the conchords. I really miss that show.
