Just curious. I have an excellent Irish Whiskey Cake recipe that I cannot divulge because the woman who invented it sells her cakes to various restaurants in South Jersey and Philadelphia and I was told by my mother that I couldn't share it until the woman died.

Even still, I don't think I'll share it even then.

So, do you have any fabulous secret recipes?

Not sharing recipies is just like the open source debate, share your creations with the world. Those of you who don't share are the Bill Gates and Microsofts of the world

I agree. What, do you think that if you give your pirogie recipe to someone they're going to open a pirogie franchise and make millions on your food?

I know, it's silly. But I gotta listen to my mom.

The statutes of limitations ends when you turn 18

LOL. Yeah, yeah. It's more of a respecting-of-her-wishes thing than actually having to listen to her. Hell, she told me (well, asked me) not to move out here and I obviously didn't listen then.

1. Irish Whiskey Cake
2. German Pound Cake
3. Pork Green Chili Stew

These are the recipes I need in my possession to ensure human stability on the planet earth. I respectfully ask you all to PM them to me now. Know that your secrets are safe with me but I have insider information that if I do not eat these items before the end of February, global warming will screw us all. Please, do not just write me off as an eccentric trying to get recipes to food that could make my life enjoyable, this is much bigger than me.

Mike, that might be something I can hook you up with. No one else in the family makes it but me, so I don't see why I can't share it. I'll think about it. ;)

LOL. If you're nice, I'll put you on my St. Patrick's Day Irish Whiskey cake list. Of course, you'll have to drive out this way to pick it up.

I figure, why not share it -- as long as they promise not to say where it came from -- because whoever you give it to, chances are they'll change some part of the recipe anyhow. "I didn't have baking powder, so I used baking soda, and then of course I had to use buttermilk for the soda to work instead of the half and half, and since I didn't have as much vanilla as I thought, I used lemon extract. I didn't think the chocolate chips would work as well with lemon, so...."

I would be willing to barter if need be, I have some recipes I would trade if you guys are interested. Give me a few minutes to choose the best ones, I will list them. I will travel for either of these recipes. Name your price, ladies.

Monkey Wrench!

That kills some of them, but I have....

Eggnog (awesome, but not really food)
Oatmeal Cookie (the alcoholic drink)
Green Chili Mac and Cheese (not low fat)
Houston's Artichoke dip
Vegetable Burritos (from Hops! Bistro and Brewery)
Vegetarian Black Bean Chili (from Bean Tree Coffee House)
Eggplant Parmigiana (from Maria's when in Naples)

The last three recipes I dug out of a book in the cabinet to entice you, I have not tried them, all are local restaurants.

I thought you just called me a monkey *****, lol!

You had me with the green chili mac and cheese until the "not low fat" part, lol.

I'm feeling generous so I'll send you the recipe just cause. :)

I hope you enjoy the German Pound Cake as much as my family does. My Granddaddy always said having canned peaches and Cool-Whip to put on top always made it complete. It's really good like that. But, if you want to do it right, you have to buy Cool-Whip, not the "imitation" stuff as Granddaddy called it and you have to get canned peaches in heavy syrup. :licks lips:

I ALWAYS share MY creations. The basis for my pork green chili (I have my own version) is my wifes grandmothers, and my mother in law has asked that I not share it. Come cook with me sometime, watch me make it, no problem but Im respecting the wishes of the creator by not sharing it word for word, it has nothing to do with open source.

Edit: I just typed out the whol;e recipe here and then deleted it. I just cant. I dont mind sharing with those close to me as I know my mother in law doesnt (she shared with me) but I just cant in good conscience share it with just anyone, no offense...

My dad used to sell these double chocolate espresso cookies from a secret recipe he bought from one of his bakers. One of the Beach Boys used to have him FedEx a box of them to him.

The only legacy recipe my family has is for cinnamon rolls.
