Dansby didn't make the pro bowl even as an alternate. He is a good player and is making just under $10 million per year with the franchise tag. Obviously he is not thought of that highly by coaches and players if he didn't even make the pro bowl as an alternate this year.

The commentator was ripping on him heavily during the Rams game. They showed highlights of him out of place on routine running plays etc...

Maybe not what you'd expect from a "franchise" player.

I believe he is overpaid and overrated but until we have a suitable replacement we are a worse team without him.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge his recent performance. He is obviously playing hurt.

I'm not a huge Dansby fan, but I have alot more respect for him playing with 2 separated shoulders!!!

Normally he's a fantastic cover LB who can come in on the occasional a-gap blitz and is good at stopping the run. He hasn't been any of those things this year. I don't know if it's the scheme, his health, or he isn't focused.

I believe this is his last season with us. Whenever he talks about his future he's talking about hitting the open market in an uncapped season and making a splash. I just hope we have someone like Rolando McClain or Brandon Spikes to offset his loss.

he is not going to get the money this offseason he would have commanded last season barring a massive show in the playoffs.

here is the sad truth:

some LB poor team is going to grossly overpay Karlos if he hits the open market.

If Antonio Smith got $7mm year, Karlos can expect more.

I have never tried playing this game with a partially separated shoulder, (let alone two of them), so I will not be quick to fault him right now. Not too long ago, (about 4 games I think), he had ten tackles in a game. The first injury came soon after that. Until then, he had played well, and at least in my estimation, had earned his pay. I believe he is still trying to do that.

I do think he is an excellent player and we will miss him. I also agree that he will get a big payday as there are teams out there that always overpay. But he has never made the Pro Bowl team which is an decent indicator of value.
The Cards need to go big in the draft on LBs. Fortunately there are some good ones available in the first couple of rounds this year

Pro Bowl doesn't mean a thing. Players and coaches play favorites too. Just wait for the All Pro list. Not saying Dansby will be on it though (Willis, Beason).

Even though he leads the team in tackles and generally our better LB, I believe he has not performed at a franchise level... I expect more game changing types of plays from him. I certainly think currently he being paid more than what we are getting out from him.

Smith made some splash in the playoffs and cashed that in. Otherwise he had an average regular season like the average player he is.

Yeah, but shoulder injuries have absolutely zero impact on following an assignment or being where he's supposed to be. Injury (barring leg injuries) are no excuse for a LBer not filling properly.

Funny you should say that. The Texans homers on their radio broadcast last week were talking about what a great pick up ASmith has been for them.

Gotta love the local radio guys.

An interesting thing is that both Dansby and Hayes had arguably their best seasons in Arizona in 2007.

The year before the Cards went to a 3-4 and were starting to play Pendergast's hybrid D, they were giving some 3-4 looks that year but did not move Dansby inside until 2008, and Bill Davis was in his first year as Linebackers coach.

Dansby and Hayes combined for 195 tackles, 4 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles and 7.5 sacks that season.

All I've heard from Texans fans is Smith has been a disappointment and not worth the contract...

Funny I know several Texans fans here in Austin and not one has ever said that.
Most of them talk about how awful his predecessors were and that, even though he hasn't been gangbusters, he has been a huge improvement.

But anyway the point was the local radio guys are always huge homers not that Smith was any good.

Everyone who bum rapped Dansby can't see the forest for the trees. I don't care if he makes the Pro Bowl or is All Pro. He is the "straw" that "stirs the drink" that is the Arizona Cardinals. He is terrific for US. I don't care where else he might play. We will regret it if he gets away.

The thing is he isn't going to be able to sign with any of the 8 teams that make the playoffs, hopefully PIT makes it because I can see them making a push for him.

actually that happened once in the beginning of the game. But way to disregard the times where they showed him making the proper read and forcing the play or making a tackle/play in the passing game.

Wait and see how much he's missed once he's gone. People are nuts if they think Beisel,or Reggie whatever his last name is, is going to step into Dansby's shoes.Beisel couldn't stick with the Chiefs and Reggie is a practice squad level talent.

:yeahthat:

Los will be hard to replace because of his presence in defending the opponents passing game & feel he is one of the best in the NFL in coverage. I really believe he has been protecting his body because of his shoulders for the last 4 games fearing a big injury will cost him $millions. If he & Hayes can't get close to 100% for the playoffs we may continue to get pounded by the run game. Is he worth more than Fitz, nope!!! He's gone & his impact on the defense will be felt next season. The Cards will be LB thin come next season.

I still think Dansby ends up getting a big contract from a team that wants him to play outside in a 4-3.

Dansby's last 3 seasons as an OLB:2005-2007

265 Tackles
15.5 Sacks
6 Interceptions
8 Forced Fumbles

Not very many LBs in the NFL have those type numbers in all 4 categories.

However, Karlos does look slower this year. I've noticed it from the first game. I don't know if maybe he's added weight to play better inside or what but he just doesn't move to the ball like he has in the past.

Pittsburgh won't pick up an expensive free agent linebacker when they can pretty much develop them at will.

Losing Dansby will be a big loss to the Defense, but we won't re-sign him. ILB is my #1 priority in the offseason.
