I see a consistent theme in Pats trades in that they often give up a high pick for a player and at same time recoup a lower pick in return. For instance, they will trade R1,2,3 pick for player x plus a R4,5,or 6 pick. I get the feeling that Belichick feels confident that he can find a good player in the draft whether it be in Rx or a couple rounds later.
It seems that no matter what or who they trade for, they always seem to get the other team to tack on a late round pick to make the deal. Just a pattern I have noticed for some time now with the Pats. He obviously values later round picks much more than many teams coaches and gms.
