I'd really like to see him get a month of starts in CF, too, before I vote. I have always viewed him as all tools and no brains and doubt he'll ever be a really good major league CF at this point. We have too many existing and potential outfielders as it is, with Carlos Quentin almost ready (and Noochie Varner among others), and Terrerro isn't in their class at all. I sort of expect him to be traded in the offseason to clear 40-man roster space.

Terrero's out of options, but I don't think he's arbitration eligible for a couple more years.

If we could get Terrero to hit about .270-.280 then he would be awsome! He is great at almost every other aspect of the game.

You dont think Luis Terrero is in Noochie Varner's class?

Sorry - very tired, glass of wine, it was the name that came to mind and I know KLL likes him, too. ;)

Depends on what you value most - Terrero is faster, better arm, more power. He's much less disciplined in the field, on the bases, at the plate. Varner hits for better avg, OBP, and better defense. Neither of them actually looks like a full-time CF to me. But given his age and his raw ability, be nice for Terrero to get a solid couple weeks to see what happens - but he wont.

But I guess my real point is, we do have a surplus of current and future OF - Green, Gonzo, Tracy, Quentin, Kroeger, Varner, Carlos Gonzales, Jared Ball, maybe Zeringue, and...da-dahhh- just maybe Upton? If its a question of moving someone to find room for Carlos Quentin, and it is, Terrero is almost certainly the one to go. He has 'toolsy upside' which may interest some team.

Varner is 25 and toiling around in AA. Terrero is the same age and, well, toiling around in the bigs. Still a huge difference in my eyes. I would take Terrero over Varner every day of the week, and I dont think its even close. Varner is just an organizational minor-leaguer. I would be flat out astonished if Varner ever sticks in the majors, let alone hits for a higher average than Terrero. Even with Terrero's recent struggles, I would still take him over Kroeger, Ball, Gonzales, and Zeringue at this point in time.

I do agree with you that Terrero does seem to be the odd man out with our OF logjam of Gonzo, Green, Tracy, and Quentin. I dont see him as our near-future starting CF, especially if this Green in Center experiment works out. In a couple months, the GM is going to have a couple of tough decisions to make, as there are only 3 OF spots and 4 very deserving candidates.

Varner is 24 this year. But yes, I agree, doesn't look like a ML player. I think Carlos Gonzalez looks like the best out of the upcoming bunch so far, but - so did Terrero at that stage. Problem for Terrero is that he's been inconsistent and immature enough that the team obviously doesn't trust him enough to play him regularly, so he's not going to develop any more polish here, and that's what he needs.

A lot of scouts still like Kroeger, although he needs to show some serious progress to stick and fast. I sure will never forget the throw he made in AZFL. The most perfect throw from far LF into the catcher's glove standing on home plate I have ever seen at any level of baseball. Truly jaw-dropping, and the runner just walked away shaking his head in shock. Hmmm...maybe he could pitch?

The problem we face, as I've mentioned before, is that in this off-season a number of guys HAVE to be added to the 40-man roster permanently or be lost, including Carlos Quentin and Conor, and they are going to have to make some trades or very tough decisions about a good handful of prospects.

I stand corrected, Varner is indeed 24 for a couple more months. Aside from Quentin and Drew, who needs to be put onto the 40-man at the end of this year (or earlier)? Looks like Jerry Gil (the dbacks site says he is still on it but I thought he was dropped a while ago) and Marland Williams are the most likely position players to be dropped from the 40-man roster to me.

I can actually see Justin Upton in CF in 2-4 years. But for the next year or two I'd like to see Terrero given a shot.

After watching yesterdays game, maybe I'm jumping-the-gun after one game, but the guy made a good catch, played smart on the basepaths (Going from 2nd to home on a bad pickoff).
