does that link work for anyone?
does that link work for anyone?
I saw in an article he was complaining about making minimum wage at 3.5 million dollars. I know he's just screwing around but I make 1% of that as a teacher, he should feel fortunate.
In the NFL, that is minimum wage for somebody of his caliber.
They get paid that amount because people like us are so obsessed with the NFL that it's a total cash cow.
You can't blame the NFL for being successful, and you can't blame Dockett for wanting to get paid what he's worth.
You can be a teacher until you retire at an old age. He's got 5-8 years left to make the money he needs to retire, and then he has to deal with all the repurcussions from injuries and feeling like he got run over by a train every day.
Think about if you signed a contract to be a teacher for X amount of dollars for the next 5 years, then the following year, the salary for everyone else in your profession increases twice that amount and the people getting that money aren't nearly as hard working or talented as you. That wouldn't bother you?
It's one thing for it to bother him, it's another to bitch about it all the time on public forums, especially at a time when 10% of the Country is jobless. Total hypocrisy. So when the economy was good, there weren't people struggling? Yes, it's bad now, but where was the bleeding heart for the homeless or poverty bound when the economy was doing well? Nowhere because nobody cared. For the guy who was struggling prior to the recession, he doesn't see any difference from the previous years to this because he's in the same boat. Now, all of a sudden it hits a statistic and it's so much more important.
The "limited shelf life due to injuries" is a bogus argument for higher pay.. They get the big bucks because the game generates big $$$. The old guys played this game with with every bit of violence that today's player's have when you factor in the improvements in equipment and the pussifying of the rules over the last 20 years, and most of them didn't leave the game with what some of today's players make in one game check.
You just made my point in that the union payout to long retired players is pathetic. There are countless stories about retired players struggling for healthcare and pay.
If hazardous duty alone warrants a fat payday, then there are a lot of people in our military who need a 10,000% raise.
I respect that, no doubt about it. It's a product of our society. We don't want to think about people dying for us so we flip on a TV with Football so we can escape that terrifying reality.
And whotf says these guys have to retire after their time in the NFL is over?? Most of them have a pretty decent education to fall back on.
Look at some of the players(I'll point out Chris Johnson as an obvious one). Obviously, education is not a priority for the school when they bring them in. It's football or nothing for some. Yes, there are opportunities to make money after, but there are a number of stories of recent players who are bankrupt because they didn't invest their money wisely as well.
I don't understand how people can be criticized for trying to capitalize on an opportunity.
You know what? EFF Darnell Dockett! Love him on the field as he is a beast of the highest caliber, but stop your frickin' whining!
I am specifically talking about him complaining about his salary and claiming he can't fly his family out for Thanksgiving. That made me sick to my stomach. I used to scrimp and scrape just to drive home from college for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and suddenly he can't buy a few thousand dollar's worth of plane tickets for his family? Sell a few cars or get a smaller mansion, punk! Stop trying to use your family to whine about your salary in the media! God, but that irks me to no end!
Yeah, he should get a pay raise, but he has to wait and earn it like everyone else. Maybe this next offseason he'll get the money he wants and deserves. Whenever he turnes into a little crybaby about it and makes extraordinarily naive and insulting complaints like the Thanksgiving one mentioned in the article, it only makes fans that are tired of his childish antics loathe him for them all the more.
I wasn't going to comment on this thread because I figured it was just DD being DD, but you know what? I'm sick of his Darnell Diva, don't-care-who-he-offends attitude. Wah-frickin'-wah. Shut up and play, idiot.
Tell us how you really feel...
I know what you mean though, the majority of today athletes need to look back and thank the players of yesterday for what they are able to achieve finacially these days. Those guys truely did it for the love of the game.
