They give up Nathan Eovaldi and Scott McGough for Hanley and choate. Blowing up on twitter right now. A change of scenery will likely do him wonders too on offense. Can't believe Miami dealt him for nothing.

Hanley is a clubhouse cancer. Marlins will be better off and Dogers will see little from it IMO.

Hanley Ramirez is an impact player. If handled correctly he can be a big help to the Dodgers to make a playoff run.

Trade is good & bad for both LA & FLA.

Good for LA: Impact bat who will be motivated going to a contender and much better lineup will help his numbers. Came real cheap in terms of players and FLA even kicked in cash for his salary.

Bad for LA: Clubhouse cancer who may be resistant to moving back to 3B when Dee Gordon comes back from DL.

Good for FLA: Removal clubhouse cancer and gain payroll flexibility. Got a SP in exchange, not a great one but got one none the less.

Bad for FLA: Got very little in return for a player of Ramirez's caliber.

Han Ramirez is like all the other alleged big bats in the Dodgers lineups the last 30 years. Hired gun, no commitment to the team or city, develops no relationship with the fans. And they are hit-and-miss with guys like that dating back to Pedro Guerrero.

Why is Hanley Ramirez on the Diamondbacks thread at all? He is not a DBack, put it on the National and World Sports News thread, not the DBacks thread.

It's fine to talk about baseball here, same way as NFL talk in the Cards forum.

Pedro Guerrero played his first ten years+ with the Dodgers, then his final four years+ with St. Louis. Would that make him a hired gun with the Cards?

The Yankees have been the biggest users of hired guns over the decades. Back when the A's played in Kansas City ('55-'67), they were known as the Yankees farm team for "trading" good players to them.

Yeah, I stretched the Guerrero reference a bit too far trying to make a bigger point than I needed. The last year I was a Dodgers fan (the last year the O'Malley's owned them), remember them talking about "25 cars going in 25 different directions." That was really the Dodgers post-'88, and I think it's defined that clubhouse culture ever since. It's a mediocre baseball organization, when they've had the money and when they haven't.

Nothing wrong with hired guns. That's a reality of the game in the era of the free agent. The Dodgers just have away of making big bats disappear, not only because of that stadium, but because guys go there and lose focus. It's like that LA haze just makes them sleepy or something.

Here is an interesting article about how the owners of the Miami Marlins -- Jeffrey Loria and David Samson -- have been conning the public, including the trade of Hanley Ramirez to the Dodgers and getting Miami to spring for a new stadium, while the two of them have been lining their own pockets.

Saw an interesting story on SI that a GM stated that they offered much better prospects than what LA gave MIA but because LA ws willing to take Ramirez's salary MIA traded him to LA. Sory also mentioned pretty much what everyone expected, coaches and players were pushing management for this move. However it still does make Lorie look like a greedy fraud who convinced MIA that if a new stadium was built the franchise's philosophy of being frugal with salaries would change. They spent money on players that they are now trying to get rid of (Johnson, Bell, Zambrano) etc.

I was going to add that the 100+ degree temperatures on the field add to that. But doesn't the June Gloom haze end at noon as well as the 100 degrees at dusk?

The ball is heavy from the humidity, and the way the park is situated, it makes it a terror on right-handed hitters. Lefties, on the other hand ...

Pitchers love it because the humidity gives their off-speed stuff a bit more rotation.

That "article" is full of bunk .... so far off from reality, but it does keep with Passans long standing quest to smear Loria & the Marlins - reality be damned

As for Hanley - I really enjoyed watching him play, but he's been in a 2 year slump and is bad defensively ... when he's on he drives the team, when he's off he kills it

He has the immaturity that comes with being a young superstar that never really had to grow up - this was OK when he was producing, but toxic when he wasn't

Overall he's not a bad kid - for the most part is likeable ..... is a bit of a frontrunner in personality though - when things are good he's typically good and they feed each other ... when things go bad he's typically going bad and they also feed each other

He's got players on the team who love him and the owners absolutely loved him .... but there are also players who woke up to only pop champaigne when it was announced he wouldn't be in the clubhouse anymore

The Marlins wanted to do two things with that move - clear the books of his contract and get a SP prospect back ...... they did ... not a great haul and kind of telling they got back more for Anibal Sanchez & Omar Infante than they did for Hanley even packaged with Choate

They now have a gigantic hole at 3B - if they can pry Olt and another prospect away from the Rangers for Johnson I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him move, although I love JJ ...... anyhow, I don't want to go too deep down the marlins analysis here

Back to Hanley, LA & this division ... I have no doubt it will pay dividends in the short term .... may end up being a bit costly long term, especially if he uses the short term good production to justify more immaturity - but c'est la vie with hanram
