Seriously, Byrnes should be the 4th outfielder on this team.

The Dodger's pitching is as bad as advertised, it's nice to see the offense getting started in the first 3 innings

This is the 4th game of the season and the 4th different lineup by BoMel. It is so frustrating the way he manages.

I thought Garlend was REALLY good today.. if he continues to pitch like that.. IF and thats a big IF we make it to the playoffs, we are going to be tough to beat with a 3 man rotation of Webb, HAren, Garlend...

Ofcourse I am getting WAY ahed of myself, it was however a very good game all around for the Dbacks..

I wouldn't count on Webb this season after his spring peformance. My gut feeling is he has surgery on the shoulder and is shelved for the year

I thought Byrnes was the 4th outfielder? Is the front office telling Melvin he has to play "the face of the franchise?" I have a feeling the front office knows they screwed up bigtime with the signing of Byrnes and they don't want to look even worse by sitting him on the bench.

The 4th outfielder doesn't start 3 out of the first 4 games. The D'backs threw Russ Ortiz out on his butt, maybe they will get with the program and do the same to Byrnes. Throwing that kind of money away is a tough decision.

However, his performance thus far speaks for itself!

Zing! Upton shows nothing besides awesome athletic ability. No improvement in anything. Not at the plate nor in the field.

Another prospect that won't break out and have his monster year until he moves on to another team.

I think Rick Schu has equal blame in the downfall of this team as much as Melvin. I'm not sure what disciplines he is teaching this team but the off count swings and missed guesses are pathetic

On a happy note, at least a lot of people are taking the train to the games:

*ding ding ding* We have a winner!!

Seriously though, the plate discipline of this team flat out sucks, and as much as Melvin wants to blame it squarely on the players, it's the hitting coach that is supposed to teach them, and Schu is failing miserably; devilalum is correct in saying that Upton will probably be the talent we all thought he would be - - after he leaves the clutches of our coaching staff!

I know it's still early in the season, but the first few games have been exactly like last year, so it isn't a new trend. Maybe winning the series against the Doggers will jumpstart the club, so my rant will be for nothing! ;)

BTW, Friggen Manny Ramirez is a D'back killer, I would walk his ass every at bat ala Barry Bonds. I don't know why they continue to pitch to him

I seriously doubt that Schu is telling Upton to swing absolutely as hard as he can at every pitch that comes within a foot and a half of the plate. While Schu may indeed be a crappy hitting coach, in Upton's case, it's a lot more about Upton than Schu, methinks....

Byrnes is a much more seasoned fielder and has shown that he CAN hit (at least in the past). Send Upton to AAA till someone gets injured and in the meantime, get our money's worth from Byrnes....

Good call on that one.
My sentiments exactly.... this is pretty precautionary, however these things steamroll pretty quickly.

What do people expect? For the D'backs to come out saying "We're concerned, something isn't right?"

With the way he pitched in the spring, you knew there had to be something wrong.

Nope, this result may come back to bite the DBacks later in the year. :bang:

I can't find any lifetime stats, but I know that Webb has typically had pretty brutal spring trainings, at least for the last few seasons so I wouldn't necessarily take that as meaning that something is horribly awry.

The Dbacks have picked up right where they left off. Good starting pitching, bad bullpen, can't score runs except once every 5 games or so they put up 10 on a bad starter.

This team is going nowhere unless some changes are made.

I say fire Melvin and try something different.

He never looked comfortable out there. I saw him pitch twice and he looks awkward, almost as if he was pitching through pain.
