Shavon Revel Jr. is recovering from a torn ACL, but his size, speed and physical play could make him a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft anyway.

Revel had an outstanding 2023 season for East Carolina. The cornerback had 13 pass breakups in 12 games played and added an interception and a sack along with four tackles for loss. In just three games in 2024 prior to his knee injury, Revel hauled in two interceptions, one that went for a touchdown.

He can play in man or zone and has the length to be efficient in press coverage. While his injury could be mean he isn’t picked in the first round, Revel could eventually prove to be a steal.

  • Position: Cornerback
  • Projected round: 2nd

Fit for Miami

The Dolphins have Jalen Ramsey as the leader of their secondary, but the release of Kendall Fuller left questions about who will book-end with Ramsey in 2025.

Any boundary corner added to the roster will compete with 2023 second round pick Cam Smith, as well as 2024 undrafted signee Storm Duck. Miami also has Ethan Bonner and recently added veteran Artie Burns on the roster. For the most part, Ramsey’s running mate for 2025 is an opening casting call right now, and the draft could be the perfect place to find the right player for that part.

Bottom line

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier values cornerbacks, and it’s a safe bet to assume he will be in this market early in the draft. Despite his ACL injury, Revel could be a top five corner in the draft class.

Grier also has a tendency to be enticed by a player whose value has been affected by an injury, so Revel could be a prime candidate for the Dolphins if he slips and remains on the board at No. 48.
