The Miami Dolphins agreed to a one-year deal with former Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Artie Burns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Burns, who turns 30 in May, was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft after recording six interceptions in his final season with the Miami Hurricanes. But the Steelers declined the fifth-year option on his rookie deal and Burns left the team as a free agent in 2020.
While he joined the Chicago Bears, Burns never played a game with the team due to an ACL tear suffered in training camp.
Instead, he landed with the Seahawks and spent much of the last three seasons bouncing on and off Seattle's practice squad.
Nearly a decade into his NFL career, it's hard to imagine Burns excelling enough in Miami to earn a starting role. But the team is lacking for experienced depth at the cornerback position after parting with Kendall Fuller in February. Jalen Ramsey is set to lock down one spot and Burns will join Storm Duck, Cam Smith, and Ethan Bonner, among others, in a competition for snaps on the other side.
