Don't look now, but is Wade Miley returning to 2012 form?

April - 2.37 ERA 30.1 IP

May - 7.34 ERA 34.1 IP

June - 2.99 ERA 36.0 IP (including tonights game through 5.2)

Outside of 3 UGLY starts in May, he's looked very solid. Is this the #2 SP we've been lookingfor?

In 2012 Miley had two outlier stats that helped his ERA a lot: his lowest BB/9 ever and a very low HR/9 outside of his normal performance. This year his HR/9 is a little higher but his BB/9 jumped back up to his career level. More BB and HR add runs onto your ERA in bunches.

Actually - aren't walks not counted as earned runs should they score!

I don't know where you got that idea. A BB scoring is probably the most "earned" run a pitcher can have.

Not sure about that... I'm gonna do some quick checking, but I was pretty sure runner who score after reaching base via an error or a walk are not considered an "earned run"...

Ok... Not sure why I included walks as being unearned. Just checked and walks are counted as earned.
Must be old age... :)

Wade proved last year he's capable of being a more than adequate starter. He's gonna get bombed sometimes, and have crappy stretches (being young, goes with the territory).

I'm not sure if he's a #2 that said.

I think that's a fair statement. He's certainly not a 1 and may not be consistent enough to be a 2, but a strong 3

I agree. Honestly too, having a solid #3 like Miley makes the entire staff as a whole that much better.

Long term, I think a Skaggs-Bradley-Corbin-Miley-Shipley rotation is one that will have teams shaking.

He proved last year that he could have a decent season, and it took some things that were outside his expected performance up to that point, that he's since reverted back to his old rates. He has not proved that he can do it consistently.
