Mark Grace put Daron Sutton on the spot by pointing out that Sutton was vocal against Willis joining the staff because of his stats over recent years.

With Josh Byrnes expressing interest in Dontrelle, Daron now says, "Why not?"

With our starting staff, "Why not?" Especially if Detroit picks up a large part of his salary.

And he's a lefty -- we have none. The front office might even realize that he could become a reliever.

Is there actually a source linking us to Dontrelle. Given I haven't been monitoring the D-Backs very closely but this is the first I've heard of us looking at D-Train.

Source: Dontrelle Willis Headed to Arizona Diamondbacks

Dontrelle Willis will attempt to resurrect his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Detroit Tigers will trade Willis to the Diamondbacks pending completion of a physical, a major league source told FanHouse.

The Tigers designated Willis for assignment on Saturday, giving them 10 days to trade him or pass him through waivers. Willis went 1-2 with a 4.98 ERA in nine appearances for the Tigers this season, walking 29 and striking out 33.

Willis' agent, Matt Sosnick, told the Arizona Republic on Monday that the Diamondbacks were among Willis' preferred destinations, especially considering the pitcher and his wife already are in the process of buying a house in Arizona.

Willis' former team, the Marlins, also expressed interest in trading for the lefty, a source confirmed to FanHouse's Jeff Fletcher.

Just got the text. Buckner for Willis.

Same here. Would have prefered Mulvey for Willis but Buckner never really impressed while he was here. Guess that means the D-Train is going straight into the rotation.

Webb, Haren, Willis, Jackson. All star rotation! :bang:

Just think if these guys were at the top of their game. The Dbacks rotation would be murder.

Maybe if we promised them a new GM and new Coach if they all played top level something would happen...

Bye bye Billy.:)
Well, he didn't let a ground ball go through his legs in a World Series like his namesake. He just couldn't pitch effectively at the Major League level.

Never cared for having a guy named Bill Buckner on the team.

I don't know what to make of the addition. Willis has been terrible the last 3 years, including his last year in the NL. He can't be any worse than the #5 starters we've throwing out there this year. This is a pure desperation move in hopes that Willis, a LHP will revive his career and save Byrnes' job, I don't see it happening. What we need to focus on is bullpen help.

I always felt sorry for Bill Buckner. If ever a manager deserved to be thrown under a bus it was then. Instead, an injured, shouldn't-even-be-in-the-game, over-the-hill, all-stick-no-field player goes down in history as one of the greatest scapegoats.

Getting Willis for this version of Buckner is likely a non-story. However, if anyone makes out big on this trade it will probably be us.

What to do with Dontrelle Willis? Hmmm.

In his last start, Dontrelle Willis' first 8 pitches were strikes. Then he fell apart, giving up 6 walks in 4+ innings. Effective in short spurts. Hmmm.

Other than Gutierez (over his last 4 or 5 games) and Heilman, our bullpen sucks. It needs help badly. Hmmm.

There is not one lefty in the bullpen. Willis is a lefty. Hmmm.

Willis is a flake. Where do flakes do best? In the bullpen. Hmmm.

I wonder if our Pitching Coach and Manager (Dumb & Dumber) are aware of these concepts. Or, if so, when they're going to have the guts to take action.

The words of Casey Stengel (the biggest flake of the 1950's) should be posted in the clubhouse. "Does anyone here know how to play this game?"

Only I didn't see it until this morning's Az Republic.

How dare you insinuate that I am unethical. You don't even know me.

Boy are you insecure.
