The Rock Talks Doom
Source: Empire Online
March 8, 2005

Empire Online caught up with Be Cool star The Rock and asked him about the video game adaptation Doom. Here's what he had to say:

"I'm playing the commanding officer who, without ruining it for everyone, turns bad, which is great. I'm so excited about that movie, I'll tell you why. Number one, it's my first rated-R movie and it's a very unapologetic rated-R movie. Not only that, but the monsters are real, they're not CGI. They're made by Stan Winston who did Jurassic Park and Predator and all that. So the monster's got weight and when they’re in a scene they're like Aliens! I get to transform and become, I'm going to tell you this right now, the BMFOTP. Know what that means? It means the baddest ... ... on the planet."

There's also going to be a BFG. That's Bio Force Gun, or Big ... Gun.

Did no one see this?

For the record, the movie was an Aliens-wanna-be for the first 3/4, then there was a plot "twist" that helped the last quarter be at least watchable, if not vaguely entertaining. Of course, The Rock actually revealed the "twist" in the post above, so...

It was fun for what it was. I knew it would be at least a bit cheesy going in, and it was, but in a fun way. I LOVED when it went to game-style mode. Brought back memories.

Chap, I very much disagree about the Aliens bit. I was explaining the game background to a friend of mine, about how you the player are the last surviving marine, but that the movie didn't go that direction because I didn't think it could. He agreed, and said, 'that would have made it Aliens'. I think it could have gone that way, but didn't.

Fun enough movie to see in the theater. Probably won't ever see it again.

That would have made it the last 1/4 of Aliens. But come on. The first half of Aliens is about the marines encountering the Aliens. How is that NOT the first 3/4 of Doom? They even had the doctor examining one of the monsters (of course, Aliens didn't have the can't-act-in-a-million-years-Rosamund Pike, either).

I'll yield in this to you, as I haven't seen Aliens in years

I dont think the movie was that good at all. I didnt expect it to be but I expected more from the Rock, his character was bland and uninteresting

I haven't seen it. However the marine in the Doom games had NO character at all. So anything else is an improvement. I mean, c'mon, it's not like he was playing Duke Nukem! :D

It was boring. The only fun was the last 10 mins or so when it went into first person shooter mode. Total waste...

I love video games.

I hate video game movies. The only decent one was Resident Evil. Even that one had it's poor moments. Mortal Kombat was entertaining, but only because I was a teenager when it came out and didn't know better. Now it's hard to watch too.

Are you kidding? Resident Evil was aweful. I mean GOD AWFUL. Doom won't win any movie prizes, I grant you, but it was better than Resident Evil.

Although Mila Jovovich (sp?) almost takes that away single-handedly :D

Eh, difference of opinion. I've only seen it once, but I thought it was decent.

I thought a dublin was a small video copy of something? Like a video clip. As in, "Do you want me to send you a copy of the Cardinal's game?" "Naw, just send me a dublin." :D
