Doug Davis Signs 3 year deal

Just heard on KTAR that Doug Davis has agreed to a 3 year, $22 million dollar deal with the Dbacks. He passed his physical to today which completed the deal.

Overall, good deal for both parties. He is great value as long as we can get the same innings out of him. If he can return to form, it will be a great deal. Good job Byrnes!

7.3 million dollars a year for a pitcher of Davis's caliber is a steal. Great to see he's going to be in town for beyond this season and I'm stoked about this deal.

Perhaps they can get something done with Livan Hernandez next and keep him in tow for three more.

I'm in total agreement with you regarding Livan. I've been hoping that some rumors would start spreading that we are looking to extend him. He's got at least 3+ years left in him and I would love to keep him around.

I don't know what to think of EB. I've been holding back while the discussion as gone on as I don't know where I stand.

I agree that Byrnes hasn't been able to put back-to-back seasons together, his OBP is awful, and he slumps in the second half. All that being said, Scott Hairston is not the answer. If people think starting him everyday is the answer to trading Byrnes then they'll be sadly mistaken. While Byrnes has his negatives, he brings enough to the table to keep him around at least one more season. He proved he has pop (25+ HR's, 80 RBI's) and had a decent average(.270+). His defense in CF was just fine and should be better in LF. I agree that he needs to work on his plate discipline but I think trading him would be a mistake. Not to mention what he brings to the clubhouse and the yound talent around him.

I'm not crazy about having him back but I don't see any better options. Let Carlos Gonzalez develop one more year in the minors then deal Byrnes when he's ready. Hairston can still be the 25th man as I don't see DaVannon being healthy by the start of the season (and Hairston should beat out Hammock)

Davis seems to be a good value at around 7 million a year. Byrnes needs to accept a one year deal, or we should get rid of him. He is an average player, and with our young guys on the team and in the minors we should get similar if not better results. I like our moves so far, but it seems the team recognizes the need to look to the future, and see our ridiculous amount of young talent. This is why it still mystifies me why we get Johnson. I think we have the makings of a good rotation, and RJ just seems like too much of a risk to be paid the way he is. I would like to compare the years of Miguel Batista and Randy this year. I think I would rather save the money, sign Miguel for two years as a stopgap, and have extra money to improve the bullpen and perhaps acquire a power bat. Still, there's plenty to look forward to. Can't wait to see the young guys improve. Chris Young looks like an athlete and Drew should continue to play short better and probably provide more power.
