Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
They've split with the Seahawks and Niners. Last year at this point they were 1-1 having split with the Seahawks and Niners. They have 40 first downs in two games. Last year they had 40 first downs after two games. Here's where it ends. Last season they had 149 yards rushing and had given up eight sacks. This year the numbers are 253 and one. And let's welcome the new line coach, Russ Grimm, ex-Redskin Hog, ex-Steeler assistant. Hell of a job, man -- so far.

I had originally, in a show of nostalgia, awarded them a spot one notch higher than the Cards, who beat them. Then I thought it through. What's the real reason I did this? Because I get occasional complaining e-mails from the Northwest, but never, I mean never, from those ultra polite folks in the Valley of the Sun. I feel much better now that I've straightened out this situation.

I wonder if Russ Grimm will get any Coach of the Year votes. How funny would that be?

By far my favorite "power ranking" site is Gridiron Gauge.

It's not flashy nor filled with clever remarks. However, it is the most accurate gauge of a team's current placing within the NFL ranks. Ranking is established based upon a team's performance (W-L) in it's previous 16 (non-preseason) games; also taking into account the record of the opponent at the time playing them.

Interestingly, I found out this site is run by a guy here in the Phoenix area.

One drawback is that he doesn't always update quickly...

It's too bad Leinart tripped over himself and got a sack recorded. As far as I'm concerned the line still hasn't allowed a sack. I was really worried about the O-line again this year, but my fears are lessening after every game.

Did he trip over himself or did the center step on his foot? I couldn't tell from the nosebleeds.

Most of the popular power rankings are a bunch of hogwash. I have followed Gridiron Gauge for several years now and it is consistenly the most accurate.

The first thread I posted it in wasn't getting any action, so I posted it in the others which were active.

In the famous word's of a fellow ASFN member...

WHOSE GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT! :D

Technically we did. When Leinart fell down/got tripped up and touched by the defender, that is technically a sack.

I don't think they are counting Matt's trip as a sack. Since he didn't get back up they may be viewing it as a kneel down. I think the sack is from the 4Q of the 49ers game:

2-13-ARI48(8:52) M.Leinart sacked at ARZ 48 for -2 yards (B.Young).
