ESPN Insider: The Boston Globe is reporting the Patriots have agreed to send both their first-round picks and two other picks to the Lions for the No. 6 overall pick and Detroit's fourth-round selection (No. 105 overall), provided Miami safety Sean Taylor is still on the board when the sixth pick is on the clock.

Previously, Lions coach Steve Mariucci told the Detroit Free-Press the team had held discussions with the Patriots, among other teams, about trading out of the No. 6 spot to secure more picks later in the draft. "We've had some conversations with Bill (Belichick)," Mariucci told the paper. "They're the only team that has two in the first round. When you look to trade back, you always look at who's got two first-round picks. That's who you look at first."

New England holds picks 21 and 32 in the first round among seven picks in the draft's first four rounds. Detroit would get the two first-rounders, as well as one of the Patriots' second-round choices (either No. 56 or 63) and a fourth-round pick (No. 113).

Word is spreading that the Giants are the team most interested in acquiring this pick in order to draft QB Eli Manning. We're hearing the Chargers would gladly make the deal for a second-round pick this year and another second-round pick in 2005. If it happens, the Chargers would move down to No. 4 and probably wind up with Miami-Ohio's Ben Roethlisberger, who we hear coach Marty Schottenheimer is most intrigued with anyway.

If these trades go down it's very likely that Fitzgerald would be the choice of the Cards. The only setback would be the Raiders but they have apparently narrowed their focus to Roy Williams.

Sounds like a fair deal for both teams and, therefore of all the speculated trades to date, most likely to happen.

FWIW, Clayton reported last night that San Diego is NOT trading out unless they get a blockbuster offer, they want a QB said Clayton. And I heard this morning on radio that Taylor is "the guy every team is spreading propaganda on right now. Everybody is saying this or that about him but fact is there are 4-5 teams trying to move up to get him." This was Mortenson on radio so that would sort of agree with the New England comments about moving up for Taylor.

Mort basically said that Taylor and Mike Williams are the 2 guys in the draft the toughest to figure because people keep saying both are sliding, but he says you can't get a "honest answer" from anybody on them.

I read on KFFL that the Vikes would like to trade down from 19. I would give them our number two and three for the right corner or D-lineman.

Mike Williams weighing in at over 240 lbs.

USA Today's Sports Weekly (newest edition) is reporting that Mike Williams probably will weigh in at his April 8th workout at 240 lbs. or slightly over. There are obvious concerns that Williams at 240 lbs. could result in a 4.6 range 40 yard dash time which would probably move him down quite a few draft boards. However, I read a while back that Williams and his camp are saying that he is consistently running in the 4.45 range. If that is the case and he is still 240 lbs. I would guess his draft stock would sky rocket.

If Vince Wilfork or DeAngelo Hall were on the board then yes.

ESPN jsut did an article on Mike Williams. His trainer said he will weigh in around 228 and run in the 4.5's.

Jeff Gollin posted an ESPN article link yesterday that has MW at 228 or 229 and running in the low 4.5's. he's at a speed camp in Georgia which is "the real reason" we're getting the MW is flunking out of USC rumors. After he declared, he basically withdrew from school and started working out full time.

So yes if he were barred from the draft, he probably would NOT be eligible at USC even if he didn't have an agent(which he does). However the cause and effect are wrong, it was declaring for the draft that caused the issue, not the grade issue causing him to declare.

It's a very good article you should find it on this board it's a good read.

I think it might be good for us if Detroit does that deal because they are trying to get more players. If we get two seconds with a trade with the Giants or the Browns we might be able to trade up to 21 if Jackson or Rivers are there. Two players a lot of people like on here.

There were a couple of really nice quotable quotes from a couple of coaches -

Vermeil said that the biggest risk in this draft would be not to draft Manning at #1.

Someone else whose team currently owns a pick somewhere around #20 - #25) said that he hopes he gets lots of offers to trade down for more picks because this draft is really good all the way thru the end of the 3rd round.

Detroit paper has the Lions denying this report in today's editions:
