If we assume holliday signs elsewhere and we do not land a free agent defensive end who is a pass rusher type..and assume suggs is gone at #6 ...what do you guys think of the guys below (from allproscouting) for a round 2 pick... I am assuming if suggs is gone at #6 we will not take a defensive end with this pick (probably WR, DT or newman)...in round 2 - which guys below are interesting.. I think 1,2 and 3 will be gone by our spot in the 2nd round.. I have read we would like 2 have martay and frank back..so we might pass on WR 1st 2 rounds? What is the story on andrew williams.. from what I read he has tons of potential but never cracked the starting lineup much at miami..

Antwan Peek.

He is Suggs without the weight. He could never be an every-down player but dammit can he get at the QB

peek is listed by all pro as OLB/DE..from a position and size standpoint - seems to be comparable to colvin.

DE in Draft

1 Terrell Suggs Arizona State 6'3", 262 4.65 underclassman
2 Jerome McDougle Miami (FL) 6'3", 266 4.65
3. What about Dewayne White of Louisville - He goes about 6-2 273, runs in the high4.6-4.7 range and is projected as a second round pick. Effective pass rusher with a nice mean streak - Based on personal observation.

when does my sporting news draft issue come out! I cannot wait. for the cardinals..if we resign frank and martay..we will probably not draft a wide receiver - we have enough young guys at this position with potential. This would leave us with the largest draft need at d end and d tackle. If we sign mcbride from green bay (backup cb)..the I could see us spending the 1st few picks on defensive end and defensive tackles (like the 1st 3 -4 picks)..changes if we get okeafer..problem now is that chiefs may break the bank on okeafor.

I've seen this kid play two r three times and he's going to be good, but is he this years Dennis Johnson? If he's there like later 3rd with a compensatory pick, then I go for him.

The guy I like for the second round is Cory Redding. He has the size and speed to be a complete DE. He is the best that I can see in the second round. The other guy I like is Tyler Brayton, he would be a LE but I think he will be a good one in a couple of years.

Why has he slipped so much? Around bowl time he was much more highly touted. The guy can play.

All that I can think of is that he has not had any exposure since the season ended. He didn't play at the senior bowl and he didn't do anything at the combine. I think because he is not out there selling himself that he has dropped a little.

well..if it makes anyone feel better..I copied the following write-up from last years draft on dennis johnson. If he has been working his ass off this offseason..he might come thru - but we obviously cannot count on that..:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2002/draft/players/99588.html

Dennis Johnson | DE | Kentucky | Southeastern Conference
Selected by Arizona Cardinals in round 3, pick 33 (98 overall)
Height Weight 40 Grade
6'4½ 258 4.83 3.79

Chris Covata/Getty Images

Three-year starter that moved in with the first unit midway through his freshman campaign. Productive as a redshirt junior leading the conference in tackles for loss and sacks totaling 61/19/12. Sprained an ankle during the first game of the 2000 seasons which forced him to sit out the year. Second team All-Conference selection as a true sophomore when he totaled 39/11/5 after 26/5/2 his first-year in the program. Performed terribly at the combine looking out of shape and not ready to work out.
Gifted athlete that causes a lot of disruption behind the line of scrimmage. Quick off the snap, plays with excellent forward lean, leverage and consistently focused on by opponents. Moves well laterally, pursues to the ballcarrier with speed and rarely off his feet. Fast rushing the edge, displays some strength at the point of attack and a closing burst of speed bearing down on ball carriers. Quickly changes his angle of attack and get to the action. Displays some discipline but for the most part not an instinctive football player and slow finding the ball. Lacks the great body control, gets tall and lets opponents inside of him. All to often neutralized at the point of attack when he should be up the field making plays. Flashes on the scene to terrorize opponents but then disappears for stretches. About to learn the hard facts; has relied on his God given abilities but must get into the weight room and apply himself or he'll have great difficulties at the next level. Should have stayed in school one more season and proved 2001 was not the exception to the rule. Will still be highly sought out in April as he is a player that easily gets up the field to the quarterback, which is a commodity. Early to mid Second Round.

Why has he slipped so much? I think what's happened is that, this year, there's a premium on edge-rushing specialists like Freeney was considered last year. There aren't too many of them - Suggs, McDougal and I think Dewayne White fit that profile.

In other years, it's been on all purpose DE's who are slightly bigger and "can stop the run." DE's like Haynes, Redding and Ken Peterson would probably go higher in other years.

Note - One guy we ought to keep our eye on is Brayton - who's not a bad pass rusher, has been on the uptick and might still be available at #37.
