I know there are people who want the Suns to take Smith (I won't repeat what I said in another thread), but in general it looks as if they may just take the one guy of the top seven that isn't taken first.
Okafor
Howard
Deng
Livingston
Childress
Gordon
Iguodala
After this seven, there is a real shift. Except for Smith who is mentioned going to Atlanta, mostly because he is from Georgia I suspect, none of the rest of the players get mentioned going in the top six.
At lot of mock drafts like to play around with the Suns pick. One common misconception is that the Suns are despirate to take a PG and will make a reach to take someone like Harris (nbadraft.net, collegehoops.com) who has not looked good or take Pavel since the Suns need a center (Hoopshype).
Maybe the Suns have a surprise up their sleaves, but at this point I think they are going to simply take the remaining one of the top seven by default. The next group is dominated by projects: Smith, Pavel, Biedrins, and second tier college guys like Harris and Jackson. I can make a case for some of these guys, but the fact that they are not being seriously considered for the top six slots is suggestive.
Getting a "leftover" is hardly the most exciting prospect, but at least they will end up with someone who is likely to be able to play. (The exception is Livingston who is probably worth more in trade than on the team, but that is the topic for another thread).
