I know that Rod Hood is struggling and teams are going to attack him, but isn't DRC taking away half the field? IMO, we haven't had a CB like him since Aenaes Williams, and while not as strong as AW, he's more athletic. DRC reminds me of Deon Sanders, and he's even willing to tackle someone. It seems to me that Clancy should be able to roll the defense toward the side that Hood is playing on, and turn a weakness into a strength. DRC will, at times, be fooled by a pump fake, but I'm excited by his play.

It seems to me that, of late, opposing QB's are starting to stay away from DRC's side of the field.

At the beginning of the season, Hood was supposed to be our most reliable corner, but he's been vulnerable to the deep ball and has not been as dependible tackling one-on-one in the open as he's supposed to be.

Right now, I'd view Hood as #2 to DRC and barely able to hang on as our second option. (Ralph Brown is mounting a challenge). I'm beginning to see Hood in the same light as we did Renaldo Hill (i.e. solid nickel or emergency #2 but by no means a shutdown guy) except that few offenses Hill had to face featured multi-receivers like we frequently see now.

In a perfect Draft world, I would not be shocked or dismayed if we were to seek out and select another corner like DRC - I'm not all that confident that either Hood or Brown give us the talent at the other corner that we need to have in order to be solid vs. the pass.

Your title made me think he was injured. Thanks for the heart attack jerk! :)

I am thankful that we aren't already second-guessing our 1st round pick this year! The kid has been amazing for a rookie and he is only going to get better!

I still think Hood is a solid corner. The Minny game he was in good position and Jackson made a perfect throw. I think if he had just looked back for the ball yesterday he could have played the ball and not let the receiver catch it.

I also love DRC and what he has been able to do this year. Will be a fixture at corner for years to come.

That play was very interesting to watch on tv. IIRC, the camera was following the players and not the ball...so I just kept waiting and waiting for the ball to show up and right when I thought there's no way this play is going to work, the ball fell right in place. Perfect pass.

DRC is unreal. he can play off because he has the speed to sprint and either break up the pass or pick it off. what has surprised me is that he can lay teh lumber!@!!!

DRC all by himself just might make me forget the crap that was the 2007 draft class.

the whole 08 class is good/great.

1st- DRC enough said
2nd. Calais Cambell's size, intensity, and diciplined play has been great and he is in line to start if Antonio Smith walks.
3rd- Early Doucet has been nice stepping in for when Boldin has been injured.
4th- Iwebema has been good subbing in and on special teams
5th- Hightower has 10 tds and could be the answer at running back next year or after
6th- Every Draft has one Chris Harrington, could be back as a PS.
7th- Brandon keith has impressed coaches.

this was the best draft in a very long time.

Let's not beat up Hood too much. He's been picked on the past couple of games but he hasn't been playing terrible. It's been mentioned that one of the TD's against Minnesota was a perfect pass and he had very good coverage yesterday on this TD pass:

He's is great position and the receiver made a very good play on perfectly placed pass. Hood's still a decent corner, he's just inches away from knocking down passes.

Its a pretty good play, EXCEPT the first rule as a CB is to turn around and find the ball. He did everything right on that play except find the ball.

Going back to DRC, it was great rocking his jersey at the game. I'll be sure to wear it on Saturday too. He is everything I thought he would be when we drafted him.

I edited the title to save heart attacks

Thanks puppy!

Also, my official stance on Hood: Very good, but short. If was an inch or two taller you can take away yesterday's TD and the Berrian bomb against MIN.

Still, he's better then Duane Starks, who seemed way too short.

Thats the difference between the good ones and the great ones. His ability to play the ball in the air (or not to do so), is the reason he is not paid three times what he now makes. Apparently you can't coach "ball hawking" skills.

Or Could it be that we've been rolling our safety to DRC's side so other teams are picking on Hood since he's 1 on 1? Just a thought. Just wondering what teams would do if we rolled a safety to help hood. It would be a challenge for DRC that's for sure because the other safety next week will be involved in the run D.

Rod Hood is still a pretty damn good CB IMO and possibly the best FA RG has ever brought in. If we bring someone in through the draft or FA that pushes him to th3 nickel spot, I say we have a very good secondary.

And yes, DRC is a BEAST. His coverage has been better than I expected this early and his physicality has been far ahead of what anyone predicted or expected. This kid could really be Deion with balls!!!!!!!!

It's an update on DRC's play, not an injury. When this thread started, it was titled "DRC Update", implying to many that DRC was injured. Nidan added the "Play Not Injury" to clear that up.
