More questions trying to get a handle on security for my girlfriends new laptop and DSL connection. Is this a good router
Linksys EtherFast 4-Port Cable/DSL Router
Model: BEFSR41
Got a cable or DSL modem? Then you need this router. It offers high-speed connections from every station on your system, all from the same IP address. Includes a built-in firewall.
I downloaded zonealarm 6.0 that comes with SBCDSL last night after discovering its not part of the install when you load SBC's software(so we never had a firewall). I followed their instructions, and it seemed to be going fine, blocked 9 attempts in the first 10 minutes it said. Then when I went to power down to eat, the computer hung and I had to literally hold the power button to turn it off manually. When Lucy turned it on after dinner the zonealarm started blocking everything, including her attempts to logon to the DSL. I eventually got frustrated and just uninstalled zonealarm and the problem went away.
So I'm thinking just get a router with a firewall as one of my IT guys at work suggested.
