If you have a choice, DTV. You just have the time commitments with satellite.

Last time I checked the cost was a lot higher for DTV;

Digital cable (expanded)
Sports tier
HD Service
HD-DVR

My current cost (pre-tax) is $75.95.

I'd be curious to see a smiliar breakdown of DTV.

:yeahthat:

Sunday Ticket, tons of HD, and HDDVR blows away the Cox box. More expensive in the beginning, but worth it IMO. Customer service is average for this day in age. 2 year agreement is probably the biggest drawback, but I've had them since '01 and have never felt the need to change.

When I switched from Cox to DTV I did a cost comparison and over the two year committment I think DTV came out to be about sixty dollars more expensive over time.
You get so much nore, HD channels, etc, the sixty dollars is well worth it.

I have a grandfathered DTV package mind you, but I have 194 channels, HBO (which is 10 channels if you could HBO Latino), 3 regular receivers, 2 HD-DVR's, HD Service and I pay $92.00 post tax

I think I pay $5.00 for each receiver so if I kicked out my brother and sister and didn't have a box in the kids room (which they don't even use) I would save $15.00 a month. So it's close, but I've been a customer for 7 years so I don't know what it would be today.

The real bitch about TV is you get over 200 channels and I think I probably watch 10-15 of them on a regular basis. I have never sat down and watched a movie on TNT, if they didn't have the NBA they would be off my list. Nobody watches Lifetime, or OLN, the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Movie Channel, Spike Network, TBS, DIY, BET, BET 2, NASA, Religious, FitTV etc... etc...

I wish would could go through and just choose which channels we want and pay for them individually. I would wager I have never even tuned into 25% of the channels I get.

What about internet service though? Cox internet is pretty darn good and if you have cox cable and phone you get a significant bundle discount.

Cox will get my business for internet without question. Still debating. DTV means money out of pocket for me right away... I have cox now, its not too bad.

We got the phone/internet package which is a pretty good deal. Too bad they don't offer Sat TV.

My co-worker just moved out to Maricopa and the only option for internet was QWest so they got the phone/Dtv/internet package. She is now battling with them since all 3 somehow got messed up. The tech told her to call Dtv and they would give them another room for free. QWest refuses to back that up.

I told her from the beginning, "Qwest customer service sucks."

Use Qwest VDSL which is also pretty good, though I guess Cox home is good as well.

Cox business service is a whole different story and not a good one. Apart from costs they have punitive support costs, structed such that you can't afford to call them out. I had really, really bad experiences with it.

I am having direct tv installed tomorrow. Cox was just too expensive for what I wanted. I got a HDDVR box and a HD box and 30 bucks off a month for the first year of service.

SO what is your first bill and how much will each month cost thereafter?

First bill will be 75 (25 dollar activation) then 50 each month after that. I didn't do any movie tiers or anything.

Thankfully, cox turned on basic cable when I moved in and they haven't turned it of yet so i'm not TVless.

Really? Does that include all the HD programming and such?

DId you have to pay anything for the HD-DVR?
