Files actor David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation centre to be treated for sex addiction.

In a statement, the actor said he did so voluntarily, adding: "I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Duchovny, 48, plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime series Californication, which earned Emmy nominations for casting and cinematography.

The actor appeared in the film The X Files: I Want to Believe earlier this summer.

He has been married to actress Tea Leoni since 1997. They have two children.

Yeah, I was honestly not too surprised to hear this news.:|

David is a notoriously private person and so the fact that he leaked this news first makes me wonder what else we might find out about this...

People kept hoping it was some marketing ploy for season 2 of Californication, but it looks like this is the real deal. Awkward!

and LOL to the tags, Dback!

What I want to know is why would you want rehab for this?

Imagine your addiction kicks in and you're really jonesing, and you're well-nigh powerless to resist, can't help yourself...and you're at an old folks home visiting a family member. THAT'S why you rehab it ;)

I just feel bad for his oldest daughter, who is 9. She's old enough to know a bit of what's going on. I just hope the cheating isn't/wasn't as bad as I'm thinking it was/is (IF he cheated - it's all rumors).

Clinically speaking, there's no such thing as sexual addiction. He's being treated for a compulsive disorder.

In real terms, I know of people who have ruined their lives many times over because their sexual compulsions are uncontrollable. We're talking about people who need to "get it" six, eight, 10 times a day. Sex becomes a component for something else -- usually in a spat of self-loathing. It's not a sign of physical, mental, or emotional health. The challenge is we live in a culture that worships virility, so people with extreme sexual compulsions think they're normal and never address what's really at the root of their behavior. If you've ever known a compulsive gambler or an alcoholic, sex is the same kind of "anti-depression" device for people like that.

Sometimes medication helps. Sometimes medication can even be the cause of it. Requip, originally developed for Parkinson's Disease, was rebranded for use to fight something called Restless Leg Syndrome -- very rare, but you wouldn't know it by the ads. Turns out Requip may cause compulsive gambling and sexual behavior in people with no known history of either.

MESA! :thud:
Sexual addiction is also what sex offenders suffer with/from. Not saying he is one, just sayin' it falls in that category. It's not a "need to have it constantly every day" sort of thing...it's a psychological disorder.

Maybe David realized his silly porn habit was actually affecting his life/marriage/relationships - as what most addictions seem to do.
