The North Carolina Tar Heels survived another game, beating Wake Forest 68-59 on Thursday in the ACC Tournament as their March Madness hopes continue on for another day. But now, it sets up a big matchup against Duke on Friday.
After North Carolina lost to Duke last Saturday, their hopes of making the NCAA Tournament took a shot and now they face a similar situation. However, things could be different this time around.
During Duke's quarterfinal win over Georgia Tech earlier in the game, star forward Cooper Flagg left in the first half after coming down awkwardly on his ankle. He was taken to the locker room to receive X-rays before coming back to the bench. However, he did not return to the game and now there are questions about his status for Friday's rematch.
Following the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer provided an update to Flagg's status.
"It's not about being ready to go tomorrow," Scheyer said via ESPN. "That's not the most important thing for us. We've got to see if we can get him right for this run that we can make in the [NCAA] tournament.
"But I would have to be really convinced that we should even consider seeing if he can go [Friday]. He may not be able to go anyway. He probably won't be able to go anyway. But I think it's a real long shot, a real long shot."
It's tough to judge based on those comments because the injury is so fresh. We will have to see overnight if Flagg gets better, especially with the treatment he will get.
Flagg isn't the only Duke player that could miss the game. Forward Maliq Brown left the game with a shoulder injury and also did not return. Brown played a big role in Duke's comeback win over UNC on Saturday in the Dean Dome.
