Does this surprise anyone. Good riddance. This from Rotoworld:

Diamondbacks designated RHP J.D. Durbin for assignment.
Durbin's awful appearance Wednesday made it an easy choice to cut him rather than Dustin Nippert. Micah Owings will replace him on the roster and start Friday.

That was quick. Good.

While I didn't see the game the box score speaks very loudly.

How hard is it to believe this guy was once regarded as one of the top pitchers in the Twin system?

Well I guess an ERA in the 90's will do that.

Edit: Here's what he says about it:

"Hopefully I get to stay with this team," Durbin said. "I really like the guys around here. Obviously Arizona is where I'd like to be. Hopefully we'll move on and get sent down to Triple-A with these guys, be fine, get comfortable, get off the mound a couple of times and start throwing the ball the way I know I can. I know I've got the stuff, I've just got to get my confidence back. I don't know, something about the big leagues ... I just don't feel comfortable and it shouldn't be that way. It should be the most exciting time and it's not. So it's just frustrating."

He wants to stay in AZ (big surprise, weather's great) but he wants to go back to AAA. I say better luck next time and release him. I hate to sound cold and rude, but come on, a 94.50 ERA...there's no way you can fix something like that.

To be fair Pat, Durbin should have been yanked WAY before he gave up that many runs. When Melvin saw he was off, they should have gotten the bullpen ready. He was left out there about 4 runs too long.

I say send him down to Tucson, see what he has from there, hopefully he can overcome this and maybe move beyond.

He was left in because the game was over and Melvin did not want to use some guys three days in a row. The don't have an off day until next Thursday. He was in there taking one for the team.

Why was the guy on the team if one bad (ok, horrendous) outing is going to get him sent packing? That looks like the bigger mistake. Coors has inflated many an ERA over the years.

Go D-backs.

I must say it was quite funny watching him get lit up yesterday. I'm glad they sent him down to AAA and I don't wish to see him back up with the team anytime soon. He looked terrible.

Edgar Gonzalez's ERA was technically 108.00 last year and he's part of our rotation. One bad outing doesn't mean you cut a guy, let Durbin go to the minors and if he still can't figure it out then get rid of him.

Someone will claim him off waivers, his Dback days are done. I'd like to see Nippert develop into a long relief or 7th inning guy. From what I've seen he doesn't seem to have the makeup to be a starter in the bigs. Durbin would only hinder his development.
