For the second time in the last three weeks, Longhorns freshman pitcher Dylan Volantis made headlines on Monday. He was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week. With Volantis dominating out of the bullpen, Texas continued to add to the win column.

Over the last week, Volantis made two appearances and recorded one save. Against a Georgia offense that is one of the best in the county, the Longhorns lefty struck out nine batters in five and a third scoreless innings. On Friday, he recorded the final four outs on only eight pitches to register his seventh save.

Two days later, Volantis continued to shine in the Longhorns 4-3 walk-off win. He retired 12 of the 14 batters he faced. As Volantis played a key role, the California native tallied a career-high eight strikeouts in four shutout innings, allowing just one hit.

While Volantis has dazzled scouts over the last week, his success is no surprise. The Westlake High School product has not allowed a run in conference play this season. Through his first seven appearances in SEC play, Volantis has struck out 20 batters and allowed two walks.

So far this season, five Longhorns players have collected SEC weekly accolades. That list includes Luke Harrison, Ruger Riojas, Will Gasparino, and Adrian Rodriguez.
