It will take a huge effort to get his contract restructured. He makes 10 mill this year and 12 mill next year. No way no how we or any other team pays that IMO. And if you restructure it doesn't mean he will make less money it means you will extend his contract to help spread that money out with large bonuses to make that happen. He isnt going to sign more less money. At the age of 31, an age where historically corners start to loss their abilities over time I just don't think handing out a new 4-5 year lucrative contract is all that smart.

There is a reason why Philly asked for DRC last year to replace him, and why they are now only looking for a 5th or 6th rounder for a really good CB. Philly like Pitt with their linebackers historically for the most part no when to get rid of a DB before their skills decline.

he's a free-agent next year though. Maybe we get lucky and take the Samuels trade and get him to agree to a contract much lower than logical to offset the Kolb trade/contract

ok ok, you may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one :D

This whole thing is really weird.

Talent-wise, Samuels is easily worth rolling the dice on a 5th or 6th round pick.

But then money enters into the picture and teams apparently are afraid they'll choke on too big a mouthful.

Still, there's got to be a way for some creative cap-ologist to figure a way to restructure Samuels' contract and get the deal done.

From a Cardinals standpoint, though, it's highly unlikely because of our cap tightness.

Also - I feel the Eagles got the best of us in the Kolb for DRC and a #2 deal - and I'm not sure I'd feel secure doing business with them going forward.

Cards have about $5K in cap room left. Even if they wanted it to happen, it'd take several players, including Asante, to restructure their contracts.

Giving up a 5 or 6 pick is the easy part for sure. Getting him to redo his contract is another. It doesn't hurt to ask him and his agent what they would go for. Put it this way, if Philly is only wanting a 5th rounder for him than that tells me he will get released anyway. He and his agent probably know this and also know that he wont get a deal for 10mil a year anyway. I think if we come to him and offer a four year deal for say 8 mil a year and guarantee him 20 mil of it we might get him.

If we are the only one to offer him a contract when the time comes he may take our offer. I think right now teams are scared of his present contract and most have already spent there cap money in free agency. This is probably the best time to get him because most teams are not beating down his door. If Philly is only asking for a 5th rounder and no one has offered them one then the market is in our favor and not his.

The 5th/6th round ask reminds me of someone trying to unload their lease on a fancy sports car. Nothing down but they just want you to take over the $1,800 a month payments for the next 68 months.

We could give them Kolb for Samuel and their 2nd round pick this year.

No. He's not much better than Gay or jefferson at this point.

If we didn't have Horton's defense, then it would be an easy yes. However, we have Horton's defense and Asante doesn't fit it at all.

I strongly disagree with this statement.

But, as has been noted, Samuel probably wouldn't fit under the cap...but that wouldn't stop me from making inquiries to see how much he's willing to restructure and start crunching numbers.

He's a very, very good CB and would make the Cardinals a better team--even if he's not a perfect scheme fit, IMO.

there is NO way Cards end up with him....

he wouldn't drop his salary to anywhere near what we could afford.

It's not happening....any further breath of this is a waste of time

Looks like he did the unthinkable and took a monstrous pay cut just to get traded to the Falcons. Will make less in three seasons then he would have made in two seasons of base salary only. Will be interesting to see the structure and if he can make it up with incentives or not.
