The biggest question is what we do at QB. Do we draft one in the first round or do we go after a guy like Kurt Cousins or Alex Smith. The comment that Coach Wilks made about a retool instead of a rebuild and the Cardinals recent history of bringing in veteran quarterbacks leaves me thinking that there is only a 50-50 shot at us drafting our QBOTF. I'm going to do this mock draft both ways.

I really wan't us to draft a QB in the first round. I don't see us moving up to the top five to get Darnold or Rosen. At best we move up in the 8 to 10 range. If we stay put I think there are only three potential QB's that we could choose from. Baker Mayfield, Mason Rudolph and Lamar Jackson. I have watched five games of Mayfield and Rudolph and I came away impressed with both. I would gladly take either as our QBOTF.

Watching Lamar Jackson is such a high and low I just can't see taking him. On the one hand he makes incredible runs with such great escape ability you can't help but love the athleticism. Then the next play you see him make a horrible throw down field and you can't figure out whether or not he can ever become an accurate QB. He is everything anyone could want as a scrambling QB, but that's it as far as I can see.

1- Baker Mayfield 6-0 220s stats are incredible! 70.5 completion percentage. 4,627 yards passing with 43 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. Love everything about his play. He's accurate. Moves well in the pocket. He can scramble well and throw on the run. If he was 6-4 he would be the first pick in the draft. Also his average throw for yardage was 11.5 so he's not just a dink and dunk guy, he can get the ball downfield. He's not just a one year wonder either playing all four years and he had a 70.9 completion percentage in 2016 as well.

Mason Rudolph QB 6-5 230 His stats are really good also and he has the prototypical size everyone covets. He completed 65% of his passes for 4,904 yds with 37 tds to 9 int's. He moves well in the pocket and does a good job running with the ball when he does decide to take off. Plus he is a three year starter. If there was a year that could compete with the 1984 draft for quarterbacks this is the year.

2- OG Will Hernandez 6-3 330 He's my number two guard in this draft. This guy can start day one. He's a road grader in the running game and stops the bullrush in its tracks in the passing game. We need a guard bad and he's the guy.

3- WR Simmie Cobbs- 6-4 220 This is the big receiver we need. Big and physical with good hands. We haven't had a guy like this since Anquan Boldin was here. After watching just a few games of his I was hooked. The guy plays with an attitude that is infectious.

4- WR Dante Pettis 6-1 195 When you watch the guy you see how shifty he is in the open field and what good hands he has, but when you watch him as a punt returner you can't help but think how much the Cards could use his services. Matching him with TJ Logan as our PR and KR would be awesome.

These are my first four picks if we draft a QB. If we don't draft a QB and sign one instead I think we take our number two CB in Josh Jackson.

I'm really going to be watching Rudolph at the combine. He's one I think could start climbing the boards if he has a good combine showing.

Rudolph is the guy I like at QB for the Cards. I'm with you on Jackson. The guy can run but his passing leaves a lot to be desired.

Rudolph is Bryce Petty-Landry Jones-Brandon Weeden. I’m pretty sure the same guys that like Rudolph also liked those other guys leading up to their drafts. They were generic Big 12 passers who take advantage of these ultra-gimmicky passing offenses, a ton of offensive talent to work with and going up against a whole lot of shoddy defenses. When will you guys learn?

Before someone mentions Mayfield, he played great against every good defense he has played. Georgia, Ohio State, Auburn, & TCU(twice). Cannot say the same for Rudolph.

Here comes the POISON quote.

if I am choosing between the second tier of QBs after Darnold and Rosen, they only two I consider in round 1 are Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield. They have the upside to warrant the money. If I am lookng at Rudolph or Lamar Jackson, I take them in round 2, or trade up into the late 20's if i really want the 5th year option.

I am really looking forward to seeing Mayfield at the Senior Bowl. If he does really well we will probably have to trade up into the top ten to get him.

I kinda agree on Rudolph... he will buy a team a few years of semi competent starter.

I have been a Darnold fan from the outset... however much of that has to do with him being a fairly safe pick for a prototype QB. I actually prefer he not be on the board when we pick because he is too safe and too obvious as the pick.

the guy I am hoping is on the board is Baker Mayfield. he is the only QB in the draft with the "IT" factor in spades... but there is risk.... he ranges from Ryan Leaf level bust to Hall of Fame QB... his floor is deep in the basement but the dude has no ceiling IMO.

If we are going to take a chance on a franchise QB this year then dont bother playing it safe,...shoot for the stars...and under the right leadership Mayfield will be the biggest star of the bunch.
barring of course a nasty string of injuries and such.

Draft Baker

2nd round WR

if somehow he falls to the third, then draft Lamar Jackson... dude would be off the hook as a gimmick/backup QB/WR/Hback... he too electric to be a game day inactive as the third QB
